I am a regular in the met and am moving outside of the 70 mile radius allowed for travel. Does anyone know if I can buy an extension to get to my destination? Sorry if it's been asked before. I can't go through every thread looking for the answer. Thanks

Hello all! Hope we're all well. A little while ago I had the pleasure of visiting the crime museum (formerly black museum) at "Scotters" with one of our specialist departments which was absolutely brilliant! As it was so good, I was hoping I could arrange to take my current team there as well to enjoy it as much as I did, as it's quite a day out! I was hoping I could ask someone if they knew how to arrange a visit to the museum? We're all job, of course but BTP as opposed to Met. If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful!

Hey, I'm new to this site after having sent off an application to become a special in the Met. I know the timeline isn't exact, but what are people's experiences with how long it took them to hear back etc? Thanks

Hi all, I'm wondering if someone would be able to offer some information on the exact steps required to report someone for summons/process, particularly roadside offences such as driving without a licence. The reason I ask is that it's an area that seems to be left completely out of the training syllabus and I've signed up to an Op Cubo in a couple of weeks so am keen to get at least a rough understanding beforehand. I found a previous thread along the same lines but the conversation seemed to focus more on the merits of reporting for process, hence why I'm posting this as a new thread (I guess it also varies slightly by Force which is why it's in Met, but feel free to …

I currently require purchase an oyster season ticket for my day to day business and travel to and from training. However the situation has changed where I now need to change my season ticket to a more expensive one. It seems straight forward but here is the issue: I live in zone 3 and my college is zone 5. I would usually be required to buy a zone 3-5 season ticket or a bus and tram pass each month. However my new training site will be Bethnal Green once Victoria closes. Now I need to buy a zone 1 to 5 season ticket as I have to travel through zone 1 to get to Bethnal on our study club days and training days. Because these circumstances mean I have to purchas…

Are there any Boroughs that have been assigned vehicles specifically for Special use. On borough we have one loosely assigned to use every other week, but if SNT get hold of the key we have major problems. Just wondering if others experienced such problems, or if vehicles are readily available for specials to use if necessary. (Also I am excluding the WW car as it is all sponsered etc and believe it is soon to be retired)

Hi all, I'm new to the forum. I'm currently in the application process to join the MSC, waiting for my day 2 date. I was wondering purely out of curiosity what other met specials out there do for their day jobs? No need to be too specific with company names etc, just wanted to get an idea of the range of backgrounds. I'm in my late 20s and in my final year of medical school (I started as a graduate hence being slightly older). Sorry if there's already a thread about this, I couldn't find one and was interested!

Kenneth Robert Howorth GM, had served 23 years in the RAOC reaching the prestigious appointment of Warrant Officer Class 1 (Conductor) in 1973; the senior non-commissioned appointment within the UK armed forces. On completion of his military colour service, Ken continued to serve his nation by joining the Metropolitan Police as an explosives officer. Sadly, he was killed on this day, 26th October 1981 whilst attempting to defuse an IRA bomb in the basement toilet of a Wimpy restaurant on Oxford Street, London. Ken's Son is today a serving Metropolitan Police officer. Not Forgotten Ken. https://www.facebook.com/FelixNotForgotten

I heard that traffic officers in the Met aren't allowed to TPAC. Is this true, as it seems a bit strange? I understand the obvious reasons it isn't allowed if it was in the busy London streets. But surely it is allowed in other areas like the motorways and A roads. How on earth are they supposed to stop a pursuit if this is the case? Could someone explain the reason for this?

I know that the very senior grades of special (chief officer/deputy chief/assistant chief) have a much higher minimum time commitment than your average special (I think they have to do about a minimum of 16hrs per week rather than 16hrs per month) but I was curious to know what the situation was with other supervisors (s/sgt, s/insp and now s/chief insp). I have two questions: 1) What are the minimum hours for each of these grades? 2) What do you think the rules should be surrounding this? I'm not a special yet so am completely inexperienced! I am just interested to find out how these things work and what people's opinions are.

Hello, I would really appreciate somebody who is a special/knows about the process to just give me some information. 1) I completed the online application, is there then a big paper application pack that I will receive? 2) when filling in employment history, I wrote that I was in eduction before 2009, however, when I looked back at the application after having sent it off, there were parts which hadn't saved! I emailed HR to inform them, do you think this will result in me being turned down? 3) What would mean that you get turned down at the initial paper sift? Thank you! Lily

Hopefully someone can help me.... I am getting there with my transfer to MSC however 2 weeks ago I was emailed by a member of recruitment offering lots of training dates and advised the email was urgently and to reply within 5 days otherwise my application would get terminated. So anyway I emailed back asking for her to call me which the email stated as I needed to discuss the training with her and heard nothing. I have continued to constantly email her and call her (to which her phone is always on forward) and call her supervisor as stated in her voicemail and to this day on I have had no joy in hearing from her or have not been able to get in contact with her am I am…

What are the rules on your Boroughs regarding doing admin hours? Are there different rules for different ranks? I always recorded my admin time on MSC Online, to show the amount of work I was doing and I think everyone should do that. I now hear that there has been a declaration on one Borough by a recently appointed S/Insp, who has stated that S/Sgts are not allowed to record their admin hours. Yet at the same time, the S/Sgts have been required to submit 728s detailing a full explanation of why they cannot give more time to being a S/Sgt, particularly why they can't give more than their minimum hours. This strikes me as inconsistent madness, so I'm curious as to wheth…

Hi all, Over the last few months certain MSC officers have had their warrant cards taken off them, not as they were leaving but as the MSC sergeant/inspector felt they were not of the required standard. So when they come in to do a shift they get it for the shift and have to hand it back when booking off. The concept of this is something I am not against, interested in what is the position in terms of the authority of MSC ranks taking warrant cards off MSC officers? If this is something which is allowed, what are the thoughts on expanding it so only IPS officers can carry them while not on duty? Interested in everyones views.
