Mods may want to move this to Real World or some other area but as it is a London question I thought it logical to pick the brains of visitors to this particular sub-forum. I am looking to relocate into the capital as I want to avoid a commute out to Bedfordshire when I start with BTP in January. I am more familiar with areas south of the river and so this is where I am basing my search. Ideally I'd like to be around Clapham but that is a bit prohibitively expensive. Hi, I know this is NOT the place to post this, but I am a student in London and live in halls. I don't know if people are aware of the recent senate house protests/excuses for thugs to attack the police. But there is a large rally planned on Wednesday, I have been amazed by the level of acitivity on social media sites and within halls and university in terms of people organising and encouraging people to turn up. There is a general feeling that this rally will be far larger than previous ones planned and it is mainly concerning subversive groups both on campus and more widely. Just wondering what people's views on the LPM are, and how it is working (or not) in your boroughs. My experience of being on an NPT is either doing the reporting car or being on aid. I'm given no time to investigate the crimes allocated to me and am unable to proactively patrol the streets any longer. 50% of the other PCs on my team are on restricted duties and offer absolutely nothing. When I first joined safer neighbourhoods pre LPM I did feel that they were not value for money as for some it was a good place to hide. However, I don't feel the NPTs are the solution either. As with all forums, the search function is about as much used as a chocolate tea pot. Any who, I was looking to see whether specials commonly gave up 'important calendar days' such as Christmas, new years, Halloween, bonfire etc. and why? I was looking to, but don't seem to be getting off on the right foot with my new borough, their communication is pretty poor and I already do not feel I want to give them these remaining key dates now. So if any of you folks with experience either way wouldn't mind sharing, might re-sway me either way. Thanks.

Hi guys, My first post here at PS.com I applied for special constable a few months back and came through Day 1 and Day 2, the status in my application portal changed 3 times this week and I am slightly confused. First 2 changes are both stage 8, the difference in between are very subtle, but I am sure it had changed. However, the change in this morning was something like (stage: applicant ready to be booked onto training school but placed on hold). I am just wondering if anyone here is/has been in the similar situation?

Hi all. I attested yesterday. Great day, felt very proud and can't wait to get out onto the mean streets of Hackney and do some actual police work. I joined with a view to almost certainly joining up full time and went with the MSC because everyone was telling me (mates who are PCs as well as MET website, training officers etc etc) it's the best/only way in these days. Now, after 6 months of training I keep hearing about direct MOP- PC recruitment drives...and noticed there is a big one page advert in the Metro this morning. Have they suddenly changed their mind about getting most of their recruits from MSC for PC recruitment? Or are they just doing this in limited numbe…

Got informed today I got to attend a court case as a significant witness for a burglary down the road (which happened THE night before my day 1, brilliant day, 6 hours on 3 hours sleep...) Hello all, I am after a bit of advice/guidance with regards to Borough selection for the posting of a PC. Having just been told I have passed my Day One (huge relief) and now providing everything is okay at the Day 2 and subsequent Vetting, I will be part of either the January or February 2014 intakes. I today received the Borough Selection form which needs to be submitted during my day two. Without going into details specifically, there are 11 areas, each comprising of 2/3 boroughs.
