In the hope of prompting an interesting debate... Congratulations! You've just been appointed Commissioner - what changes would you make (to strategy, policy, operations, training, HR, equipment etc) to improve the efficiency/effectiveness of the MPS or otherwise further what you see as the objectives of modern policing? Of course, you have to work within a budget, but luckily the government of the day is quite open to suggestions on how your proposed reforms might be funded.

Without getting to technical how would one go about dealing with traffic offences marked up as VDRS on the FPN sheets. It does say to use a process book and let Marlowe house decide but just checking if any other way of dealing with it? Boring topic I know........

Was meant to start the hybrid course next month but just received an email saying it is no longer available. Vetting is taking way too long and training dates are cancelled? I was offered the weekend course but that won't suit me at all and would've much preferred the others available. Other than that, it is kind of surprising how long vetting is taking, I passed my day 2 four months ago now and still haven't passed, not sure if there's an overload on applicants or whether my application specifically is taking too long. Considering I'm pretty young and haven't been around/working and have been doing absolutely nothing but school/university for the past few years, I fin…

Hey All, Yet another question. Has anyone here been on a ride along with another force while on holiday? I'm off to America in October and I'm looking to go for a ride along with NYPD, as of now I have got no idea how to set it up. Any ideas or thoughts on how I can go about it? Also if any of you have done this sort of thing before - how did you find the experience? FYI - Serving Special 2 years service

So after 5 weeks of silence, yesterday I've received two emails congratulating me on making it to Day 2. After a brief emotional roller coaster consisting of 'WHEN DID DAY 1 HAPPEN?' and 'IS MY DOPPELGANGER GOING THROUGH THE PROCESS INSTEAD OF ME??', I get another email saying that it was a mistake and another one with my Day 1 info. And then I realise that my Day 1 is scheduled for when I won't be in the country. So many emotions. But at least there's progress! The number of recipients is also visible in the email and there are quite a lot of people going through to the next stage. Exciting times ahead!

I've noticed on a few occasions a chap who loiters around the barriers at my local overground station, and obviously doesn't have a ticket on each occasion or any intention of paying. He waits for somebody to put their ticket through the barriers and barges through behind them. What powers would an off duty met special have in dealing with this offence? Would the best course be to stop him and ask the staff to call a revenue protection person or btp to deal with them?

Hi, I've been a special for 6 months. I'm confused with what's involved in completing IPS, MET pacs and SOROC book. Can someone please explain what is needed to completed my IPS in the coming year. I was told there 8 or 9 parts? Is the SOROC book completed at the same time? And the Met PACs? Sorry if this a reoccurring question, it didn't show up in a search. Cheers

I read in a recent thread ("You now need to have lived within the MPD for 3 yrs to join"), that the Met are struggling to recruit. I thought they always had more applicant than vacancies and there were allegations of positive discrimination and the like? Has something changed in the past few years? Recruitment I meant. Sp

My friend has just started in Met as PC, and is based in Westminster and hates it, says they feel like a tourist attraction and thats it. Any chance that they will be allowed to move to another borough so early on?

Recently had an email with a start date and so forth for training at Hendon. As I currently live in North Wales I need to re-locate, my knowledge of London, it is fair to say is minimal to non-existent and I would really appreciate some help if possible, I am tearing what little hair I have out looking at areas to live. Basically, I haven't had my specific posting as yet however I have mainly requested North West and West London. If you have any recommendations for places within an hours commute I would be forever indebted. Would be looking for an apartment for myself and my partner as she will be relocating to. Thank you in advance!

Hello, I've applied to become a Special Constable on the 28th of July (the force I am applying for is Metropolitan Police). I am still awaiting their email confirmation of my application, but I have phoned them up and they said they have it in the system and I should wait another week or so. While they send me an email I was wondering what I should be preparing myself for on Day 1 assessment please. I have seen people say that reading some books on e.g. "How to become a special constable" has helped them them so much, I don't know what to do, to prepare myself for it, any advise or tips will be very much appreciated! P.S: Also, for Day 2 assessment, some advise would l…

Hey guys, need a little help from you masterminds on here! My day 2 was around 5 weeks ago and i'm still currently undergoing security checks, vetting and references (My references have already been contacted, if that helps). However, here is where my problem begins.. This morning i received an email stating that "due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to reduce the Saturday course commencing 14th September 2014. You will automatically be placed on the Saturday course in October which commences Sunday 19th October 2014 to Saturday 18th April 2015." I haven't got a problem with being moved back, however I've heard stories on here stating their course being moved b…

Hi Guys! :new_wave: Long time creeper, I mean reader, and first time poster. Just wondered if anyone knew whether recruitment for Specials was actually open, because the bit in the FAQs on the metpolicecareers website says that it is, but if you click on 'contact us', it say 'Please be aware that both the special constable and met police volunteer campaigns are currently closed. Please check the relevant pages for recruitment updates.' Slightly confused. Also, I've submitted my application on the 15th of July and still no 2 week confirmation email. Tomorrow will hit the 4 week mark. Does that mean it was unsuccessful or did they just not bother sending one? (I'm sure w…

Hey Guys. I m just looking into the selection process for the MET (to become a regular).... ..... one of the pre-application stages is a "London Factor Assessment". http://www.metpolicecareers.co.uk/graduates/becoming-a-police-officer.html From the MET Website: You will undertake this questionnaire during the period above. The precise opening date and time for undertaking this questionnaire will be notified in due course. In this assessment you will be presented with sets of statements. You will be asked to read through the statements and decide which is most like you, and respond accordingly. When this stage closes, you will be advised of the result of all the …
