Following some recent feedback that there has been an abundance of new applicant / training threads in the Met Forum Specific section, I have merged all the recent ones into the two threads that were already pinned (see Application & Assessment (Day 1 & Day 2) Thread , and MSC Training Thread). I lost count of how many threads there were, but there were four dedicated to a November intensive course alone! Has anyone joining as a Special Constable been for their uniform fitting? I have mine tomorrow but haven't got a start date for training yet. Now they say they are still dealing with my vetting. Why are they sending me for uniform fitting if I haven't even passed vetting yet??? Anyone else in this situation?

I have had yet another really helpful email reminding me that I should have been IPS a long time ago. It says that 18 months is the longest it should take from attestation. What are people's views on whether this is possible if "only" 200 hours a year are being spent doing MSC duties? This is *not* a whinge (for a change), a genuine question.

Hi! It's been a while since I last posted on here! Just been reading what everyones doing whilst waiting for they're start date. I heard Tuesday from the MET thet some dates are set for specials, I had the choice of a few but decided to do the 4 week, Mon - Fri course. I start on the 15th of November. I'm from South Wales so was hoping someone on here may have the same date as me. Chris

Hello everyone, I'm wondering if there are any other specials out there who are starting their training on Sunday 16th January (consecutive Sundays) at Hendon then Croydon/Victoria/Bethnal Green? I'd like to have some people to look out for on my first day to ease my nerves!! Caroline

How many arrests and detections do you supervisors expect you to get each month and what's the consequence of not get the desired amount. In my case it's 3 arrests and 3 SD's... the arrests are relatively easy to get (depending on your postings, leave etc....) the SD's are more difficult as most jobs get handed over which leaves PND's and Cannabis possession. The consequence would be a meeting with the guvnor and probably an action plan.

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone can give me advice on where in the general London area Police Officers can afford to buy a house. I'm currently waiting for my start date, (along with the rest of you) and once it arrives me and the wife are hoping to be able to buy. Nothing grand just a 2 bed. However having been round to my bank, I've been told on a Policeman's salary and my wife's teaching salary, with our deposit we can forget about buying in the area where we are currently renting (Teddington), as our combined salaries and deposit are not enough.
