I am due to start my OST this Sunday. I know what kit to bring, but my problem is with writing my surname on the left hand side. Basically my surname is a double barrelled surname and in total it consists of 14 letters. Would it be appropriate for me to only write one part of my surname? And before the jokes: when growing up I only ever used one part of my surname (7 letters). The MET have insisted on me using my full name for legal reasons!

Currently im training as a special but long before the specials i applied to join the royal marines... alas due to budget problems my application was put on hold. Ive now recieved a phone call telling mye i can now continue with my application. My question is if chose to join the royal marine reserves (the equivilent of the armys ta) could i still be a special or would that be some kind of conflict of interests??? i did hear of a guy who was sadly killed in afganistan who was a community support officer and in the TA but do arrest powers make a difference?

Has anybody been successful yet in booking dates for the new ELS / OST sessions held at central training sites from April onwards? If so - HOW?!!!!!

I just wanted to know from Met officers: If your a dog handler in say Catford base covering SE London, would you ever be deployed to central London to assist in things such as protests? Are dogs even used at protests? The reason I ask is that in the news of recent protests in London I haven't seen any mention of police dogs being used - yet City of London police were using dogs during G20/saw a few pics of the handlers only at student protest. Also, if there was mass violence at a football game in say north east london and they needed back up, could the catford based handler go up and help out?
