Hi all, Ive got two parts to my question (greedy I know!) Ive just applied to transfer from being a Special in Nottinghamshire to the MSC. Has anyone been through the process and could give me an idea on timescales? In addition does anyone know which bits of training I'll have to redo? (if it makes any difference Ive got 3 years service and as you'd expect have Independent patrol status) Secondly the main reason I'm doing this is to safe guard my Met PC Assessment centre score (i'm one of the many currently waiting for a start date having passed my Day 2 last year). When (and if) the start date finally comes how does the conversion work? Do you have to hand in all your…

Any information which area is good (harrow or brent) I heard that some boroughs don't have facilities like lockers or even radio's ... so some specials will be paired with another officer who does have a radio. Is this true? Also is one area more pro-specials than the other?

How do i go about getting on this for this year? saw officers there from a variety of different boroughs last year... i assume its L3 as there are no metvests to be worn.

Hi guys, Day 1 Oct 26 2010 Day 2 Nov 19 2010 Intensive training course commencing 14 March 2011. I requested Greenwich as I live in the borough & it'd be helpful not to have to travel too far. Is this allowed or is it discouraged? Also, is it true that the Orpington site has closed? If so, would I be sent to Croydon or would I do the whole month at Hendon? Hi all I have applied for Hounslow and was wondering what it is like as a borough? Is it easy to IPS (I know there are aload of factors for IPS e.g a persons will power) in general? Thanks!

I must say from my first 3 weeks of training, the staff have been HILARIOUS. Especially today I just couldnt stop laughing as my trainer was making loud monkey noises. Just a heads up, it is hard work but great fun at the same time.

Hi, I've been a SC since February, very close to IPS. I was wondering what the procedure would be to move towards working with CID. If I did work with CID, would this involve my role being limiting to the office as merely an assistant? Thanks.

I've looked through the MPS threads in this section but couldn't find much on the competencies the MPS are using at the moment for Specials candidates. I looked on the NPIA website too but as I'm on my BlackBerry and don't have access to a computer at the moment I couldn't download the competency framework! Boo! I'd be extremely grateful if someone could possibly list the competencies in this thread for me as I've just sent off my Specials application and would like to get started with the competencies. Feb 11th to 13th is national specials weekend. What are your boroughs doing for this? anything "special"? Here at RY we have Borris Johnson comming down for a chat in the morning with our MP and then our new Borough Commander is comming out on disorder patrol with us.

Hi, I'm a bit stuck on updating my ELS/OST dates on MSC Online. I submitted an account change request last weekend because I was getting a message saying my ELS and OST status were not recorded. In the field for "Last ELS Date" I entered the date I completed my last ELS course and last OST course (both done during the 23 week training last year). This was approved. Today when logging in, I am getting a message saying ELS expired on 27/07/2010, and OST status is unknown. Can anyone let me know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks, Confused SC!

Hi, I've noticed a significant number of Met Police Officers wearing a new style of epaulettes. They are emboided as opposed to having the metallic numbers. Is this a new cost saving measure? I've also noticed some officers wearing grey epaulettes - they normally turn out to be sergeants - again, I've not noticed this before - is this a new thing that's being introduced?

Hello Specials This is a very boring first post but I wonder if someone can help me please...does anyone know where I can print my NCALT certificates to show I have completed each module? HR need them but I can only seem to print a one page Training transcript... I tried searching for this but to no avail so apologies if this has been answered previously. Happy New Year to you all

Hi All, To anyone who's completed the training. I'm due to start the hybrid course at the end of this month - I understand that you get a face full of CS spray as part of the training. What happens if you wear contact lenses like I do? Do you have to remove them beforehand or change them afterwards? Any advice would be appreciated! Also, if there's anyone reading this who's starting on the 31st too please give me shout. Thanks.

Hey All, Dont know if this would be of any use to anyone here whilst their training but a freind found this Hotel in EC2A that are offering rooms for £1 a night... So if you were doing the intensive and you were say in bethnal green or central (or anywhere else for that matter) for training and its looking too mental to travel there everyday... maybe this might be a solution? £1 a night - 23 days = £23 which my humble opinion is a reasonable expense to incur especially if lessens travelling costs... but anyway i'll let you decide!!! http://sale.hoxtonhotels.com/

Hello all, Recently been set up with an AWARE account and was told that we'll get things like court warnings and incident updates/information requests sent through to us on our Met Police email. However, you seemingly can't access your email from outside of an AWARE terminal, and what with being a Special, you obviously won't be in the station on a daily basis, and it could be a couple of weeks before you actually get a chance to check your email. Are there ever any problems with you missing out on information or important court related matters because of the inability to access email from home?
