Hi All Please be gentle with me as I am new to the forum. I just wanted to get some sense of feeling from other MSC officers about the proposed changes to our expenses and travel expenses. The MSC OCU is looking to shake up the way we claim for petrol and also for food expenses. Receipts are being look at for food claims which I think is going to be full of problems. It does strike me that our expenses as MSC officers seems to be coming under some scrutiny which is unfair are we just an easy target?

I'm very interested in moving into the Regulars (have been an MSC for around 2 years now). However, as I'm sure you're all aware, the knowledge of even probationary regulars is far beyond even experienced MSC officers. I've seen a lot of Blackstones books around, would it be worth picking up one of these (and which one?!) to develop my knowledge and understanding? I've also seen a 'Points to Prove' book, but not sure who made it, or if it's useful. If there's any on the PS store, that are worth it, would be happy to pick them up from here. If not, does the Hendon shop have anything useful? Thanks!

Hi - I'm quite new here so please don't attack me if this has already been discussed, I've done a search and couldn't find anything. I am considering applying to join the MSC, I have just left school and hope to go to University in London. I currently have a provisional licence (and expect to take my test in the next 6 weeks). If I failed, would this preclude me from becoming a Special? When I searched on the forums it looks like lots of Specials who are experienced drivers can't get driving courses, so would it matter if I didn't have a driving licence? Even if I do pass, as a new driver I'm not sure I'd be confident driving a Police vehicle - I am aware I will make mi…

Hi, hope this is the right section to post this in. I have recieved an email inviting me to the Day 1 assessment to become a special constable. I'm currently being diagnosed with Irritable bowel syndrome and now wondering if this will affect my application? Just wondering if anyone else has IBS and is a special and how they cope with the symptoms? Thanks, Katie.

Interesting...i always thought that probationary constables would not be allowed to do public order 2 until out of their probation!...Do any of you know of boroughs that have level 2 probbies? http://www.met.police.uk/foi/pdfs/policies/level_2_probationers_training_probationary_constables_policy.pdf

I hate seeing my city torn to bits by riots. But I was on the streets of Hackney for many long hours over the past few days, and it was beautiful to see the MSC and the regulars (and TSG... BSU... etc) work together. We had some very warm thanks, both from the public and fellow officers. I'm proud to be part of London history. I guess, with 16,000 officers on duty, I'm only about 0.00625% of history. Nonetheless, I know I was there, I helped, and I did my bit. A lot of tired faces at the moment, but we've all got something to be proud of. Keep up the great work, MSC. o2w

The Commissioner has called for all Specials to report for duty and calls for employers to support this. http://twitter.com/#!/metpoliceuk

Supposed to be, after being attested 2 months ago, finally going to an induction tomorrow at my chosen borough, Lewisham. Whats the chances that its going to be postponed?? Waited long enough! :D

I am absolutely shocked and sickened by the riots happening across London! It has purely become a chance for all criminals to come out onto our streets and cause absolute mayhem for absolutely no reason but pure mindless thuggery!! All responsible need to be brought before the courts and given very heavy sentences!!! To all the police out there, regulars and specials. You are doing an amazing job!! Stay safe!!

Hi, I have recently sent an "Expression of Interest" in the role of DDO and was wondering if any other Specials have recently applied for the role of DDO and, if so, did they have any success? I have so far had no reply and was wondering if the "Expression of Interest " form was likely to lead to an invitation to apply or weather it was a shot in the dark. Thanks, Little George.
