So I thought I'd re-join the site, I used to be a member on here, but can not remember my old username I thought it would be interesting to create a thread for those of us who have our eyes set on a career in the Met and have gone down the Specials route in order to obtain the career we want. I myself graduated University in 2008 with a Politics and Criminology degree and sent my application off to the Met in Jan 2009, it had always been my intention to go into the force, as both my father and uncle were in the police. I had my day 1 in May 2009 and my Day 2 in June 2009, and was vetted in July 2009, however due to the fact my RO (Recruitment Officer) took 5 weeks lea…

I see there is a discussion going on on MSC Online, but this new CARM3 system really sounds like it is not designed with specials in mind at all. Although my basic shifts are booked in advance anyway, I will often come in and join response team or go out on foot/bike on my own if I am unexpectedly free on a day, or as today when I was only called last night to ask if I would be able to take part in an operation this morning. My sergeant said today that turning up without notice could mean being sent home now if there was no one to book you on. Apparantley one borough (which one?) already have a rule you must book shifts 5 days in advance, is anyone on here? What are eve…

Hello all, I was recently chatting to somebody and they were saying that it has been decided all front line officers will be issued with taser, and this will be completed by 2013... Although this is only rumour, it got me and some people from my team thinking Would we actually want taser? Personally I like the idea of having it, especially with single patrol being the diffult patrol status and the ever increasing violence towards officers. ... Would it often be used? - Probably not, but there is always that time it would be handy. We recently had an incident with a chap wielding a knife around and it took quite a lot of force to restrain him, and the Brockley inciden…

So, another victim of the Murdoch empire or did he bring it on himself. Who's next in line and what's next for the Met?

Does anybody know (from experience, etc) if the PNC via MDT, which is a certificated course, can be carried over from SC to PC? As it's certificated, I'm thinking yes, but does anyone know different?

I've got my ELS assessment this Saturday and I'm trying to practise bandaging palm wounds but I'm having some difficulty remembering the correct procedure. Does anyone have any useful links or videos to doing it to the Met's ELS standards? Many thanks, -Paul

Ok, haven't seen this on here before. What is the guidelines/law/rules about stopping vehicles when you are in a Q-car? (Unmarked but with covert blue lights and sirens) Obviously being aware of 163 RTA 1988, you SHOULD be in uniform to stop a vehicle. Is it more of a grey area that 'just happens' or is there something else? I have heard a lot of officers in plain clothes recently where they have stopped a vehicle (by waiting for it to stop or using covert lights etc) and as they are in plain clothes, they ask for a uniformed officer to come down and 'sign the ticket'. Surely this defies the whole point of having to be in uniform to issue tickets. Don't get me wrong, I …

Saw this on a weblog and have editted it slightly but it's hilarious but true. A Brian List Of Things To Do Before Hanging Up Your Truncheon Drive a station van with egg on your tie/cravat. Have a suspect you're chasing run straight into a lamp post. See a running suspect get caught by a police dog Say something inappropriate to your Chief Superintendent or their significant other at a social gathering. Good afternoon. I know this has probably been asked to death but i thought i'd ask one more time Is it practical to want to join the met specials purely on the basis of wanting to become a regular PC, within 3/4 years? (After finishing specials training of course) Thanks in advance.

Anyone been on the Tube recently? I've noticed that in the last week or so carriages have started to display adverts for the recruitment of Special Constables again, I hadn't seen them for months prior to this! Does this not seem a bit strange seeing as though the majority of boroughs have now closed their doors to new Specials?

Hi I'm new on her so appologies if this has already been asked or posted elsewhere! I have had a small amount of arrests sicne in service (just under 1 year), but have always been helped when in custody with a body. All the work has been done for me by another, I guess to save time etc, therefore I have never been able to pick up myself how to correctly book someone in custody. I doubt I am sharp on knowing my ROAST either! Can someone kindly guide me through the process, so it can build up my confidence next time, as at present I panic when coming close to arresting someone, and for this reason it has been a while since I arrested anyone. I understand there are diffe…
