So some of you may know that there are a few large Aid operations coming up. At our borough, they asked whether as many SC's as possible could volunteer - and we did, by the droves. Then, we were told that the Powers that Be have decided not to use the Special Constabulary for this operation after all - not even people with full IPS status. I understand that some situations are more volatile than others, and that regulars might be better trained than us, but I have to admit that I felt a little bit insulted by this. On the one hand, they say we're their equals, with same powers, same experience and (after we reach Independent Patrol Status) the same abilities to do …

Seems the focus is becomming increasingly widespread. All new '11 plate IRVs seem to be the focus? Not heard of any being astras or anything else. Look forward to hopefully driving one soon and will let you know, anyone else driven or been in one.. what they like?? I see they have got rid of the old light switches and introduced digital keypads (Pic here)

I've just been reading the build up stats on the BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13125846 And apparently 2 billion people are going to watch and every single nutter with an axe to grind is going to be there! I'm actually quite nervous now that some mentalist is going to spring up exactly where I am standing and 2 billion people are going to see me panic like a mofo and probably CS spray myself by mistake.

I thought it would be good for people to express some ideas about where the driving courses will be taking place in the future if Hendon ever closed. My bet is that they'll have smaller teams at the main training sites, or possibly a site in Central London where they can do the best training. Suggestions?

Quick question which I have tried searching for but not found an exact answer. Will be doing some tutoring shifts over the next few weeks with some new specials but I have no idea how the new SOROC / PDR system works. Could anyone let me know exactly what needs to be ticked off and how it all works? I believe you do a PDR then full out this new SOROC book or am I wrong? Not going to be in until my first mentoring shift so would kind of like to prepare for it first... Either on here or by PM would be appreciated.

A good practice guide has been produced regarding level three driver training. It covers selection criteria and the process around arranging such courses. Copies are available on MSC Live (under training and development documents) or on MSC Online (under Deployment policies, news & announcements). If you are looking at putting forward a business case to get any MSC officers trained to standard response level then please read this document as a first port of call - it should answer many of your questions. Any it doesn't answer can be directed to me. James

Hi all and a massive congratulations to everybody who took part in the recent day 1 assessment and passed and huge commiserations to the people that unfortunately dipped it. There will be more opportunities at some point I'm sure of it. A few questions that I have found myself pondering if anyone would be so kind as to answer for me... 1. Do we still need to do these 5 module things that they were hammering earlier on in the year? I have heard mixed answers on this subject. 2. (Probably one for JS) I have been lucky enough to obtain level 3 driving as a special and want to double check that it can be transferred to PC. 3. Does anybody know if we have to do a changeove…

I've been thinking about creating this thread for a while but haven't got a round to doing so but here goes... I'll start with my Day 1...I turned up extremely early for my assessment, I was dressed in a trousers, shirt and a tie and I made sure I had plenty time to think about what I was going to say and so forth. I understood not everyone was going to be as eager as I was but as the time got closer to the 'official' assessment I couldn't help but think "What are these other applicants doing?" There were only three further people that turned up just before the allotted time and most of the others turned up LATE! I'm sure on my assessment letter it stated that if you are…

Just wondering in metland if anyone has or know anyone who has arrested someone using this act? If so how did they go about it and what was the outcome, I so far have never come across anyone using it but lately it would have been so helpful but sadly I don't actually know how it works
