Metropolitan Police (London)

Hello all! Been meaning to ask this for a while now but do you feel that role of a Special Constable has changed within the Met, from what I've gathered people originally joined the Specials to help police in their spare time and were happy doing that as the maybe couldn't afford / other commitmens to do the job full time, more recently I feel that reason for joining have changed, it's no longer wanting to help in your free time but people are now joining as this will be the only way to become a Police Officer, how do you feel about this?

Whilst on borough is it possible to go on a shift with traffic? as I have a friend who is a traffic officer, and thought about maybe going on a few shifts with him, (not a permanent attachment, just 1 or 2)

Are there any officers in this forum that work on the Met's OSU? If so, could you share some thought's on what it's like and the sort of thing you get up to? Also, are any of you level 2 trained guy's that are working on the OSU? I love working in the night time economy, and often do foot patrol's in Shoreditch, which is my borough's busy 'clubbing district'. I have also thought about asking my skipper if he can get me on a shift with the OSU one night, id love to see how they work ...

As a former Cadet with the Met (over 30 years ago now) I've found that there is a severe lack of information around about the Corps. It would be good to hear from any 'ex-Gadgets' out there from the dim and distant past to share memories of cadet days. I'm sure there are many people with 'fond' memories of their time at Hendon, Sunbury, Wanstead, Kingsbury and Limehouse (even maybe not so fond memories). Be good to hear from those who did their full-time cadet time with other forces too....

Does anybody know the policy in the MSC for being reimbursed for loss of earnings from the day job incurred whilst giving evidence in Court? My understanding from the HMCS guidelines is that police officers attending in their official capacity are not entitled to any money from the Courts themselves. Does the MET pay the lost money, or do only normal expenses apply? Cheers, lemondrizzlecake.

If anyone from Enfield borough is reading this, then you may have got an email last night inviting us to a one day course in Gravesend (public order level 3) There are 2 days, either the Sat or Sun. I've requested the Sunday as I'm already busy doing my MSC course at Hendon on Saturdays. If anyone is going, then get in touch! What's the situation at the moment with the Met taking transfers for Specials? Am I right in guessing that transfering to the Met from a HO force is a no no at the moment?

Apologies if this has been mentioned previously... I heard a little rumour the other day... however it's only from one person. Apparently in stock and ready to go at uniform services are new Metvest covert covers.... they are BTP stylee one's, day-glo and hopefully with plenty of pockets. As I say I have only heard this from one person and I have no idea who his source is but perhaps we are going to get some new kit fairly soon.

Has anyone attended one of these talking blues recruitment 'seminar' days? where you practice the roleplays for PC NRS Day 1s? if so what was your experience, was it helpful? and are the met going to give us a help day for our PC Day 1s?

Hi guys a quick question after my day 2 i was giving a form telling me where i can go to get im sure it was hepititis injections just wanted to know if it was mandatory for Officers to have the injections done or is it at your own accord whether to have them done or not Cheers

Starting Intensive training at Hendon 14 march :) yay! If anyone has any idea, is it possible to drive to Hendon and park inside the carpark? or do we need to have a warrant card to gain access for parking? Thanks to all in advance
