Right! So we had a very good discussion in the chat room last night, which I would like to carry on and probe you all (in a painless manner ) about your current setup when in uniform. To help understand the benefits of the different layouts, such as Cuffs and ASP on same side, or always different side to each other. So tell us if you are left or right handed and what side is all your equipment on your belt, so ASP, Cuffs, CS Spray and anything else you carry which I clearly don't know of. For me, I write with my left, but I always use my right hand when kayaking for example (you get a left or right handed paddle). So I would always strike with my ASP from my right han…

I've noticed that my e-mail Display Name has had (MSC) added to the end of it. As an example my display name used to be shown as: Surname First - OCU It is now shown as: Surname First - OCU (MSC) I can't think of a good reason why this has happened ... anyone else have an idea ? James

I am soon to start my MSC training. Now I know that MSC officers get free TfL travel using their warrant cards, but what about during training before a warrant card is issued? I am talking about TfL transport btw, I know there are no concessions whatsoever on National Rail for specials. Any help much appreciated.

I have just recieved an email from the MET with options for training start dates. My current job ends on the 2nd September and there is an option to do the full time Mon-Fri course to start on the 12th. I am very tempted by this but I do not live in London and I can't get there before 7:45am. I don't have any relatives in London, one friend might let me stay but I think it's unlikely. Is anyone aware of any options I have for accommodation? I am aware that the MET doesn't provide anything so I'm not even going to ask but can someone recommend any good places to stay? I have some money saved up so I can pay about £500-600 for the month. Cheers.

Hi, So a random email dropped in my inbox the other day. Basically a colleague of an ex-colleague has sent me an email asking about becoming a Special. They asked what the work was like and what was interesting/boring. Now, I don't know what their motiviation for joining is but I'm guessing it's a to do something different for and to volunteer their time, as opposed to primarily becoming a regular. So, the question is, what do I say. I am in a pretty cynical place when it comes to the job at the moment so I'm not the best person to ask but I can't wax lyrical about how awesome it is at the moment. Now, the first thing is to describe the application process, one m…

In my old force before the MET, it was impossible to acquire IPS before having had one years service (from attestation). Having completed their competency packs within that year, they were then signed off on the day the year was up. The main thinking behind it was that there is a certain level "maturity" (probably the wrong word), that can only be gained in policing through time served. The idea was to stop specials thrashing through their competency check-list through compacting lots of hours after attestation, and then being signed of with IPS having only been in the job for a month or two. Indeed I believe the thinking is the same in regards to regulars having a mandat…

Hi guys and girls, just wondering if anyone knows if you can apply to a specific team on a borough or certain OCU (e.g. Borough STT units or STC (Safer Transport Command), Road Responce team or the like) when you apply full time from being a special? Donald.

I've volunteered to go and help at the Cadet Competition next weekend at Hendon but don't actually know that much about it all to be honest. Any VPC on here want to enlighten me? I'm sensing it's quite a big culmination of a lot of training, practice and effort.

Hi guys, couldnt find an answer elsewhere so posting a new question here. Can we go to any Met Police station show our warrant cards and get access to an aware terminal? Its a bit of a journey to go all the way to EK from west London just to check my email and sort any I.T . related issues. It would be a lot easier if I could just walk down the road and use a computer at my local police station. As always thanks for your input. cheers.
