This is a scenario i was pondering on my way to work the other day, You are a police officer off duty and you are travelling on a bendy bus. You do not intend to use your free travel concession so you swipe your oyster card. For whatever reason, you do not notice, but your oyster card has insufficient funds. Maybe you have your headphones in so you happily go about your way and sit down on the bus, thinking you have validated your oyster card. On your journey, the bus is inspected by Revenue Protection / Community accredited inspectors. An inspector approaches you and checks your oyster card. As it in invalidated, the inspector is now about to write you a ticket / tak…

So far, the left wing media haven't killed it too much, but it makes slightly interesting reading. It looks to be only a 'review' but judging by Mr H-W's comments it looks like this could be on the cards. What are your thoughts? Especially relevant in relation to what happened over the weekend. I can't believe I am attesting today! I have been wanting this day to arrive for the past 23 years and I truely can't believe I have finally got there. Since I was 11 years old I have wanted to follow in my Grandad's footsteps who retired when I was 4 months old as a Sergent at Epsom and served 30 years. He & my Nan raised me since I was 2 years old and is a massive insipration to me. Many years ago there used to be a height restriction of 5'ft 4" for a female & me being only 5' exactly, didn't have any hope, I went on to have my children etc and lead a very hectic life but never let my dream go. My Grandad is very unwell now & I wasn't sure at one stage if …

I was just curious and as the title suggests, i was wondering who lives in London as a Special? I personally live in Hertfordshire, but worked in London for the last 6 years, and felt i would be better suited to The Met rather than Herts Police, due to knowing London better than Herts, and The Met is the best! Anyone else live out of London? Thanks Andy

A lot of Specials seem to be in the MPS already or are/have applied to join in a Police Staff role. I'm just waiting for a start date for CCC. Has anyone else applied for a Police Staff role or are you Police Staff already?

Hi everyone, I start my training on Monday. Now it doesn't say I need to buy my boots on any of the info provided to me by The Met, but reading a lot of comments and topics on here saying to buy them to break them in. I wondered will I actually need them throughout my training? Cheers Andy

This may have have been posted across the board but was just wondering if anyone could shed any light on it. As far as I can see the Met is still activily recruiting special constables however it seems alot of boroughs are no longer taking on new specials as they are full. I know my bocu has stopped taking on new officers and has also recently cut half its MSC. Are they still running Day 1's, there is meant to be a stop on training over the Olympics next year, anyone who starts training after xmas and cant commit to the intensive course wouldnt be trained by the time the Olympics begin. I understand there are currently around 5000 specials serving in the Met, does anyo…

I think many people on here know that I work as an MSC officer within Traffic OCU and that I'm quite passionate about the role and the work we do. Recently we offered some opportunities for SC's to join our teams across London, despite significant interest on here and in response to the advert we received less than ten applications. I'm trying to understand why this was. As some background, a brief overview of what Traffic OCU MSC officers do: 1. Traffic focussed taskings in response to SNT complaints - e.g. speed enforcement, over weight vehicles, ignoring signs etc 2. Garage based taskings - e.g. operations targeting No Insurance, HGV offences etc 3. Supporting b…

Just wondering if anyone can direct me to either a shop or website that sells clips for our radios. Unfortunately my clip has been 'borrowed' and I can not get my hands on another one...cutbacks and all.

Met must save £456m or cut police numbers Justin Davenport, Crime Editor 16 Nov 2011 Scotland Yard will be forced to make further cuts in police officer and staff numbers unless it makes extra savings of more than £450 million over the next three years, a report revealed today. The Met study reveals thatthe Mayor's pledge to maintain police numbers after the Olympics is at risk unless there are further savings. Boris Johnson declared that he would keep police numbers high following the 2012 Games in London in a speech to the Tory Party conference this year. However, the Met's director of resources, Anne McMeel, says the force faces a total budget gap for the next thr…

Guys, any idea on next PLC intake for us specials? Its frustrating now, with final year university starting next week and not knowing how to manage uni timetable with possible PLC dates/revision. We seriously need bit more notice and atleast some idea on next dates. I was hoping for November 2011 but these riots might just have kicked back the dates to 2012. Can someone please post any info they've got on next PLC dates for remaining Specials. Thanks.
