Hey, This may have been asked before, but using my mobile and do not have the search function and only can see 2 pages of topics. I was talking to a few classmates and none of us can think, why do the areas have the codes they have, for example KG, HT etc when they do not fully relate to that area. Can anybody answer the question, where do the codes get their meaning from nd how did each borough get their specific code. Thanks

Can someone shed some light on officers being pulled up and being fined £20 for not having a permit to travel? Is the warrant card no longer valid without this permit to travel for free? Cheers

Evening everyone, Could an existing Metcall operator (comms officer, whatever you prefer to be called) please send me a quick PM. Got a question Id like to ask. Thanks. Dan :drinking:

Hi all, I was just interested to hear about any embarrassing things people have done while on patrol, anything from school boy errors to things that have had your fellow officers laughing at you for ever since. I'm sure this has been done on the forum before but I couldnt find the original topic, so I've started this one in the hope that it will give new prospective specials (like myself) an insight on what to try and avoid doing when we finaly get out there, and that it might give everyone else on the forum a bit of a laugh Apologies in advance if I'm clogging up the forum with posts that have been done before.

All, As a Special, if lucky, I can probably check my emails once a week, however why do OST AND PUBLIC order feel the need to email 3/4 days before the training with all the instructions? To date I have been quite lucky to receive the full details from fellow colleagues. Is it just me who has this issue? As I know some specials that get emails to their personal email and met account well in advance?

Hi all, This is probably more a question for one of the regulars as opposed to any Specials, unless there are any high ranking Special constables on here. Here goes, this may be common sense, but I have heard that even if you have achieved promotion within the Specials in the Met, for example you become Special Inspector, your decisions or powers can still be challenged by a regular police constable in a police matter. I suggested common sense because due to the nature of the Specials it is voluntary and so there is only a certain amount of power you can hold, however surely promotion to these higher ranks must bring with it some kind of advantages other than controlli…

Saw this and thought people may be interested. It shows that between January 2009 and July 2011 MSC officers made nearly 12000 arrests! The page has the breakdowns by Borough/Unit. http://www.met.police.uk/foi/pdfs/disclosure_2011/november/2011080003187.pdf

Due to there having been multiple threads in the past for the application tracking website, I feel it'd be useful to create this thread so everyone can refer to it without the need to create related topics in future. SBG has kindly allowed me to create this topic which will then be locked and pinned. - The website is: https://secure.met.police.uk/ccspec/logon.action - (it'd be a good idea to bookmark it) - If you haven't used the site before, you'll only be able to log in using your candidate number, surname and date of birth. The website is really picky about who it lets in, so you'll have to read below to make sure you get it right, if it still doesn't work - email…

Does anyone know if you are allowed to park motorbikes in the yard at west end central nick? I know there are parking bays down the road but it's westminster so probably cost £100.

Hi all, Let me first say, I am aware that there is a purpose built training thread and I have posted this on there also, however it is 99 pages long now and I do not anticipate many people checking through the many many pages so I've temporarily posted here. It is getting a bit jumbled on the Training thread. I have my Day 1 shortly and have been told that if I am successful in that stage, then my Day 2 will definitely be in Feb/March. What I wanted to ask was how much people know about the training disruption as a result of the olympics. I.e., say I get my Day 1 and day 2 out of the way by March latest, am i likely to be able to get onto any Intensive train…

Hi all, I am currently going through the process to become a Special. My choices are: Greenwich Lewisham Bromley I just wondered, all being well and I get attested, is it difficult to get onto a Response Team in your chosen borough? It seems to be the case that many specials go to Safer Neighbourhoods and promote the whole 'high visibility policing'. However as I have already accompanied officers in the back of Area Cars/IRV's within Greenwich response team, I think I would like to work on team. Do any Specials out there know if this is easy to achieve? Are there any Specials working on team in Greenwich? Thanks

This is going to be a long shot, but here goes. I'm going through all of the millions of forms to fill out in preparation for 'Day One'. I have come to the training sheet, which asks you to express a preference as to which training type you would like to do. I'm at university so preferably I would like to do the intensive course during my Summer holidays. I've heard that if I pass Day One, that Day Two is in Feb/March. And hopefully after that, training may be available in Summer (all being well with vetting). Now here is the long shot, do any of you have any idea when the intensive courses are running this Summer/year? I haven't received much clarity after callin…

We've been givien a list of units to be assigned to on our borough. The list includes licensing teams. Apart from checking out pubs what do they do and what would Specials do?

Hi guys, I'm currently 18, and a Met Volunteer Police Cadet. I've applied to become a Special Constable back in December sometime, got a letter from Met explaining that they've received the application and are processing it. It's been a while since I've heard anything, should I give the recruitment line a call and see if they know anything more? Also, I've been told that in the interview, you get asked about any challenging situations you've dealt with, problem is, I haven't actually dealt with any dangerous or challenging situations.. so don't have an answer for that. Is this anything to worry about? Also, I've asked my Cadet Coordinator to set me up an observer sh…
