Anyone know what the SOPs say with regards to basic drivers parking on double/single yellow lines and using the bus lanes??? Every now and again we get pictured in the Daily Mail parking on a single/double getting food and get a load of flack. But what do the SOPs say? Anyone had any experience, got a ticket whilst driving? Where I work there arent too many bus lanes, but for other inner london boroughs it seems silly sitting in traffic, en route to an S Call....

Hello. I am 17 years old and I shall be 18 on April 24th. I am currently a Police Cadet and hope to join the Met as a Special Constable. Does anyone know if I can at least apply just before my birthday say now or some time in March or April just before my birthday. Its also an Online Application. So can I at least register and start completing an application then save it for now and just simply submit it on my Birthday if need be. I don't want to make a mistake then have to be pushed back another 6 months before I can apply properly again! Many thanks DS

Hi all, Just wanted to make this thread as when I was looking to join the Specials I couldn't find a thread that in my opinion, told me the not so fun aspects of what life as a Special would really be like. This is just a very short summary of my experiences and is intended for someone who is considering becoming a Special Constable with the Met. .... Hey all, I'm a London black taxi driver and wondered whether the met police and City police have been told to pull Cabs for Bill and Badge checks If they are not displaying the new Identifiers? There are so many Illegal taxis, taxis working out of their sectors etc driving in and around London, It would be great to know that the police are going to stop drivers without Identifiers. After all, Black Taxis get access to places no other vehicles can and anyone could be driving an Illegal one. It only needs a terrorists to get the idea and all hell could go off. Cheers Geoff

Hi all, As of summer 2012 I will have finished Specials training and hopefully attested, hooray! My overal aim is to progress from MSC to PC as soon as I am eligible as well as competent enough to do so. As I will have graduated by then, and for the moment have little in the way of work commitments, I am able to devote the majority of my time as of summer 2012 to being a MSC. However, how many hours is considered too many? I am conscious that I don't want to irritate people by being there all the time, but equally I would like to learn quickly and gain IPS asap. Just got my rota for the SNT I will be attached to (none to happy about it). However I have a genuine worry due to them only working 2 Saturdays a month I wont be able to meet my 16 hours for March. Now I know we have to do 200 hours per year, I have the following questions: 1 - When does that year start (ie is it like annual leave is 31 March 12 to 1 April 13 or is it from the day you attest/ start training?) 2 - Do training school hours count towards your 200hrs for that year? 3 - Am I likely to get hauled in for a professional discussion for not making March's hours despite being able to put for 80 hours in April? To apply to be a MET PC, do you have to have 2 years and IPS under your belt to apply to be a reg? or just IPS?

Hi All, A woman from vetting called to clarify a default account and I gave my explination. The lady said she would pass it on... So how far am I in? credit check I assume has been done...is that at the begining of vetting, or end? or is it impossible to tell. Anyone pass a days after this? weeks? Getting excited now...

Is there any parking at ESB??..I've parked my motorbike there before no issues...what about a car.. Do you need a permit of somesort or will a warrant card do?

Hi. I'm filling out my form for the Specials but I noticed Heathrow as one of the borough choices. Now what kind of work will I do with Heathrow? I assume I shall be on the Airport and have the airside pass and everything right? Will I be a firearms trained officer or will I be one of the other officers who wear the White Cap and monitor the airport perimeter and surrounding motorways and roads.
