As a MET Special, is the Custodian helmet mandatory? If so does this not impare the wearer from the day to day tasks? i'm not a big fella and i'm worried the custodian might make me look like a kid in fancy dress. Also I have my day 2 coming up soon as I just passed both aspects of day 1. I'm fit and healthy and jog every day but is the hard part over? (Day 1) Thanks in advance.

Got this email this morning... Dear Special Constable Applicant, Thank you for your application and for the considerable time and commitment you have given to the recruitment and selection process. This is to inform you that the Special Constable training courses April 2012 though to June 2012 are now full. Also that there will be no Special Constable training courses during July 2012 and August 2012. That is during the time of the 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games. The Special Constable training programmes will resume from September 2012. As a consequence, your application may take a little longer to progress through the final stages of the Special Constable …

I'm sure this has been asked many a time before - but a quick search and I can't quite find the answer I'm looking for (possibly just not looking in the right place!). I resigned from the MET in June 2010 but am now thinking of rejoing. What is the current procudure? Assuming I'll need to start from scratch again (small hope I may not have to).

What it says on the tin really, I've been doing quite a bit of admin lately, dealing with various issues and we're now almost into double digit hours. I used to reflect this in the duty book and by booking on but is that the done thing in the new world order of CARMS 3? Cheers, W

Hey all, now I know there is already a similar post on here somewhere regarding boots, But as I start on the 11th of June I'm now actually looking to get a pair for myself (obviously I need to, dont want to start training without a pair of boots on stand by). There is SOOOOOOOO much choice, and me being me would usually go for one of the more expensive brands seeing as in my experiance, tings that cost more are usually better quality and last longer. But seeing as this isnt allways the case, I beg to ask all of you that are currently serving.... In your honest and impartial oppinion, what boots are best for the job and what would you reccomend? Answeres muchly apprecia…

I was at the Empress State building the other day and stumbled apon the MET collection ( http://www.met.police.uk/history/metropolitan_historical_collection.html ). For history enthusiasts I would definately recommend it. Some great black and white pathe films from the early 1900s, medal collections with stories of heroism (including those of specials) and some great historic uniform. The piece of uniform that suprised me was a spiked metal collar issued to police officers who were in danger of being garrotted!... If you have family in the police and want to research tem, this is the place to go!

I'm going to be doing some training here. Is there parking available? On the google street view every where seems to be residential permit only, and getting the train from where I live is quite difficult. It looks like the station has a car park, but are staff allowed to park there?
