Time to adapt to another change. Thoughts?

Hello all, Just wondering if anybody starting MSC training from 21st May 2012? I am starting from this date and was wondering who else is around here. It says on my offer letter that induction day at hendon and rest at Bethnal green Police station. but it also says that it would be shift patterns.

So here's a few details about my first shift. 9:30 - Arrived at NI Police station. A nervous wreck may I add! 10:00 - Introduced myself to the lovely gentleman behind the desk at reception, who took me into the office to wait for the Inspector. (Still a nervous wreck!) 10:15 - Met the Insp. who made me feel so welcome. He carried my bag for me, which i was quite surprised at! 10:25 - Met with another special who had only been there a few weeks, who made me a cuppa tea on arrival! (could get used to this). The Insp. showed me around the Station, which seemed like an actual maze (and being a woman, got lost in ), then I got changed into my uniform. It was the first time…

I've just come off the phone after spending a lovely 1 hour 45 mins, 1 hr 30 of which was on hold to Met HR and the training school. Despite trying to be helpful, they were fairly completely useless. I'm graduating from uni this year, and attesting as a special shortly after. The plan is, that I have IPS for when regs recruitment opens and then to become a regular. I've been looking at the HPDS stuff as the prospect of doing a masters is an attractive one at the moment and have a few questions about the scheme. Is it still running? HR seemed to be very quick to tell me they hadn't heard anything or anyone doing it for a long while? What's the format of the cour…

My hair is relatively unkempt and student like at the moment. I of course know that I need to get it cut into a respectable style upon graduation and training. But what are the rules on haircuts? Can you cut it too short? The only reason I ask being back at school if you turned up with a number 1/2 you'd be swiftly sent to the head of year for a telling off.

Has anyone on here transferred from a Scottish force to the Met and if so what are your experiences? I'm interested to know what the good and the bad things have been, if being an officer in Scotland has provided any advantages (or disadvantages) before you transferred and what the biggest differences were. I'm not considering this as a career move presently (still in probation), but it is something that would interest me in the future (several years time) depending on circumstances. Cheers.

can any one help me with day 2 of the assessment for the Specials please. im attending the assessment on 30th may 2012, who else will be going and finally, can any one that filled out the business interest form help me please and is there any thing i need to know about day 2 any advise is great and appreciated.

Hi guys. I recentely attested on the 5th May, but haven't heard anything from my borough yet, whereas other people from my class who are going to the same borough have heard from them and have started to go out on patrol already. I've emailed a few times and no one has got back to me. Any suggestions on what to do? I'm so eager to start! Thanks Oh and it's for NI borough yaaay

Hey, I have just had confirmation of my accomodation at Finchley Section housing. Just wondered if anyone staying there on here can advise me on what I may need to bring......ie Does they have a laundry room with an Iron? Is there a shared kitchen and do i need to bring cuttlery etc? How big are the rooms? Any Internet connection? Cheers, Whit

I have posted the article in the News section (http://www.policespecials.com/forum/index.php?/topic/128944-inspector-preston-gurr-rip/) But thought I should also put a post in here as many may not see it, and knowing how many Specials we have who are either serving or have served in Westminster, many may know the officer concerned. Clearly very sad news, I didn't know him personally but he sounds like an excellent chap. RIP.
