Thinking about transferring to GMP from my force, and have had a brief chat with their recruitment What is the moral like at GMP? Also, recruitment have said that more than likely I would be in response, which would be great. Do response officers at GMP have to investigate their own crimes, or are crimes passed onto another team to investigate, interview and do cases? At my current force, we have to do all of the above on response

As any GMP member will know, we’ve recently switched to pava from cs. I’m wondering if anyone has any experience of pava spray and it’s affects? One colleague used it a few days ago and it had zero affect on the subject. I’m aware people can be immune to CS but on the whole, from my experience it had some affect on everyone, some people would fall to the ground coughing and spluttering, others would remain standing and aggressive but be visibly impacted by it non the less. I’ve been reading about pava and watching exposure videos etc, and it doesn’t look good, it seems to make the eyes clamp shut, but other than that, nothing... CS was an incapacitant, pava see…

Hi all! Hoping somebody can shed some light on the assessment session at sedgley park, i have been to an assessment centre here before, but last time it lasted 2/3hours and included , a 60min situational judgment test ,20min written ,20min interview. I will shortly be attending an assessment centre next month and i believe it has changed slightly, I am told it has now changed to a 45min assessment and the interview could last up-to an hour. Does anyone have and advice or any idea what the current specials assessment consists of ? thank you

Hi all, Does anybody know if there will be any intakes after the march one? I know that it was planned for 500 per year but then all the payment problems came up.

I'm starting as a student officer soon and have been allocated City of Manchester Division. Can anybody tell me a bit about the division? I've seen the divisional map, so know it's boundaries but as I'm not from Manchester I'm not familiar with the geography of the area. Which police stations could i end up working from? What is the area like (i know it includes the city centre)? Do you find yourselves with the same sort of city centre related crime day in day out, or do you get a wide range of jobs? What would life be like for a CoM division student officer? Are you predominantly double crewed as every time I've been into the city there is 2 cops in a vehicle…

Hi all, Can any one point me to a resource with more detail on each of the core competencies for the PC role? I've got my phone interview for GMP next week and I want to make sure I've given it some thought to inform the discussion. All I can locate is the below: - Planning & Organising - Service Orientation - Effective Communication - Achieving Results - Teamwork There seems a lot of overlap, so I want to make sure I've got a more detailed understanding of how these are applied. Cheers!

Hi everyone, Does anybody currently work on the Trafford division as a Special? Particularly interested in working within the Sale or Altrincham areas and wondered what people's experiences were like. Thanks in advance.

Hi - made the classic noob mistake of putting this in the wrong place, so here goes again: I'm looking for some background about pathways into detective work. Some context: I'm in the process of attempting to join GMP as a student officer. I've been in a middle-management desk job for the past three years or so and I can feel my mind going numb so it's time for a change of pace. One thing I am particularly interested in is investigative work (aware this may well change once I get some practical policing experience), so I'm trying to dig up some info about the route from PC to DC. Of course a cursory Google primarily points to that direct-entry thing for th…
