Hi! I've just been given a date to have my medical next month. I'm all good with the fitness side of things, I feel that I should pass it easily! But I don't understand the eye test side of things. I was sent a letter to fill out to take to my optition to have test. I don't quite understand the eye sight requirements for becomming a Special Constable. My results are as follows; Right eye unaided: 6/120 Left eye unaided 6/120 Binocular: 6/60 Left eye aided: 6/6 Right eye aided: 6/6 Binocular: 6/5 Near vision - tested at 40cm: N4 What on earth does all of this mean?! Could somebody help me figure out if my eyesight is adequate for the Police, please?! Thank you…

Does anyone know about the avon and somerset drugs test? Do they ask for a hair/urine/saliva sample? I was taking codeine and ibuprofen recently for an ear infection (probably longer than recommended) and am worried that if i get chosen for it then i might fail because its a form on opium... Really worried because i've read before that people have failed because of a similar thing! If its a urine or saliva test i think i might be okay but if its a hair...! any help!

This is probably an old question, but do A&S use the Policing Professional Framework now? Serving the public Openness to change Service delivery Professionalism Decision making Working with others Some of these competencies incorporate multiple indicators from the older competencies. For example in this case, professionalism can include problem solving, resilience and communication. I wonder what competencies we will be assessed on in the local interviews for specials as it could seriously affect the amount of points gained if the answer given trails off in to a different competency.

Hi all, I have my physical at the end of February and I'm a bit concerned about the bleep test. A police officer I volunteer with told me that while carrying out the bleep test, if your foot goes over the line before the bleep sounds again then it's an immediate fail. My question is, if true, how on earth do you time yourself to make sure your running at the perfect speed? I don't believe I'll have a problem with keeping up with the bleeps as physically I am very fit - it's just the timing that concerns me.

Hello, I'm currently going through the process of transferring from TVP to A&S and have been advised that my posting will be in the Somerset area. I was hoping to get some feedback as to what the different areas are like there and any pro's and cons of the different stations. I may be asked for my preferences in regards to stations so it would be nice to have some idea. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Matt

"We have changed our Special Constable recruitment process in line with national guidance from the College of Policing. We encourage those who have previously applied and not been successful to reapply. The National Specials Recruit Assessment Process is a rigorous and standardised selection process involving the observation of your performance across a variety of exercises, assessing your potential to perform the role of a Special Constable. Assessments are made based on what you do and how you do it. Trained assessors evaluate your performance in exercises which relate to specific competency areas relevant to the role. Information from all of the exercises is used t…

Hi guys, This is my 2nd time applying for Specials - I have failed miserably on the Situational Judgement Test last time and just want to get it right this time. I haven't done a lot of preparation last time but I was still quite positive after having completed the test, so you can imagine my surprise when I found out most of my results were below average. I'm not really sure what I did wrong but I want to avoid the disappointment this time around. Any specific advice on completing the test? The competencies I was tested against last time were as follows: Overall Judgement Decision Making Leadership Managing Performance Strategic/Organisational Perspective How c…
