Thought I'd start something a little different snd give my experience so far compared to all of you who have mostly all got into training all ready. Funny enough a year ago my dream was and always as been to be in the military,I got myself to assessment but met my partner and suddenly we had two kids on the way and she wanted me no where near the army. Mainly I guess because her dad is a wo1 in the royal marines abd all her life he as not really been there due to tours. So my 2nd choice (although now I see it as the best one I could of made) was the police, unfortuantly again due to issues I couldn't apply full time as I had no qualifications so I had to look at ot…

Been a bit quiet here lately. It seems we are all at different stages and conversation has died down while we wait for various things to happen. I just wondered what everyone's latest was. Is there anything you're currently waiting for? What's your next stage and do you know when?

When you attend your fitness and medical, I recommend you arrive in sportswear. The Beep Test You'll be signed in and escorted to the canteen/common area where you will provide your ID and fill out a quick pass around form with name, ethnicity, age etc. Within 15 minutes you'll meet the physical training instructors and you'll walk down to the indoor training area where you'll get briefed on the tests you are about to undertake. Following a few stretches to warm up your hamstrings, you'll do a warm up for the beep test to level 3. You will have approximately 60 seconds to catch your breath before the test is reset and you will run continuously between the 15 metre marke…

Tonight is the first night I've really looked and thought I will fail. Last week or two I really have not been able to go out running as few problems in my relationship etc so it's knocked me really bad. But tonight I finally got to go out. Up to westlands ( ted will know this) frim my street and back is 800 ( well slightly over , about 0.54 of a mile ) which is what the bleep test is fully. Now I done that in about 4 mins but am sweating like there is no tomorrow and literally was panting like a dog on a hot day. If I can't even run a mile, or only just half of a mile then how on earth will I pass this. Uou lot have been brilliant help but I feel I really will …

Now I know this is a long time coming but I wanted to get a general idea. Firearms unit since living near London my whole live as alwsys been on top of my agenda. I know you have to be a regular but does anyone know how long you have to be a regular before you can even think about looking at the fire arms unit. I know we don't exactly in avon and somerset have the famous 'so19, co19 or what ever they have decided to call the speicalist fire arms officers now. Although I'm not sure if they are only met based. I wasn't sure if avon and somerset have just authorised fire arms police officers ( standard based armed officers) Or the SFOs ( just slightly more traine…

I know this vetting part gets done to death on this forum but my answer I can't seem to find anywhere, different circumstances that I want to just get a small idea on. I know they want me and my family all put on but this is where it gets complicated. I'm not from somerset I'm from milton keynes so I know they contact thames Valley. My mum is from wigan, dad from Scotland, step dad from Blackpool, partner from somerset and her mum from Luton and get dad from Manchester lol We get around you see, now that all doesn't bother me as they all work hard and never get in trouble. Step dad is NHS, partners dad W01 in royal marines and so forth. It's the other side th…

What do you wear for this? I've been told I'll be having to try on uniform and things so don't really want to get unnecessarily dressed up if I just have to take it all off. Are jeans acceptable?

Hi, Just wonder if anyone can help / advise? I have recently applied for 2 positions with police staff at A&S, 1 as a call handler and the other as dispatcher. I have so far heard back about the Dispatcher role and I have been invited to an assessment centre. - the problem I have is that the assessment centre is at 12.00 this Saturday (26th Sept) and I have a family wedding that I can not get out of going to. Within 30 mins of getting the email inviting me to the assessment date, I replied to say that I was still extremely keen to pursue the role but I had a family wedding on that day and is there any possibility that I could attend on a different date? I also se…

Does anyone know if there is a list of towns or map of the response area from different stations or is that operational? I know on the website there is an area covered map etc for Neighbourhood teams but I understand that response officers have a wider area to cover and was hoping to find something similar. The reason being is that I will be going to a station and area that I am not familiar with as my preferred station covers my home area (which apparently is not advised). I was hoping to do some research in to areas covered by the response team for my chosen station.
