Hiya, I have been looking on different forums and websites and I can't really find anything specific to the initial police training at Portishead, can anyone give me any idea of an order of modules and information on community placements? Thanks EmJay

Is it possible go get a copy/previous copy/examples of the competency type questions that may appear on an application form? I'm thinking more in terms of having some idea of what to expect before the real thing (a bit like when I was a student, it was deemed the most useful tool was past exam papers). I've never been required to have a formal interview for my past jobs, never mind complete a competency type application form so some prior knowledge not so much for the questions themselves, but more so the style/content they're looking for would be helpful if anyone knows of any resources out there? My searches haven't yielded much of any use so far.

I'm preparing to apply as a special and naturally want to do everything I can to make the process as smooth as possible. I'm not too concerned about the medical and fitness aspects (I fall within the acceptable BMI range and I'm fit, active and exercise regularly. The guys at my gym are going to sort me out with a mock up of the fitness test just to make sure anyway). I've got some life experience under my belt. I have useful transferable skills from my day job and other volunteer roles. I've been out with beat officers as an observer and even that didn't put me off....! So I think I'm there. It's been a long time coming (mainly due to 2 1/2 years of weightloss an…

I have created this thread as we have a lot of topics that get derailed with other force related discussions. These little chit-chats that aren't quite topic worthy now have a home - right here! If a board is required in the future I will request it but let's see how busy this gets first.

Hello there friends and future colleagues! So I've got had my vetting back and all was fine, went for the uniform fitting (in which my hair was ruined in the process of trying on hats), and was wondering what loadouts people are using; So for boots I went for LOWA Z-8N GTX (http://www.patrolstore.com/Lowa-Z8N-GTX-Boots.html?gclid=CjwKEAiAt_K0BRCzjtv92_HGoR0SJAA9QNn_aDp9S1uYQ8rRNmTbv_O2kzoTqGXAdw5BuDLbNWLuWhoCpCvw_wcB) Because of the nature of my day job (Medium secure Forensic Hospital) fits in nicely with the job, so have been wearing them in and they're amazing - Although running when responding to a situation is a barrel of laughs as they're relatively heavy compar…

Following your vetting clearance you will have received a training course offer where you will next be required to contact Uniform Stores to make an appointment for your uniform fitting. You will have to make the journey to Police HQ (Portishead) where you will get to try on some kit for size. Stores are only open on week days so you may require time off work to do this. The uniform process is pretty painless. I'd recommend turning up in jeans and a collared shirt, there is no requirement to be formal but you might get extra brownie points if you at least put some effort in to your appearance. You will be asked to bring some appropriate shoes or boots to wear while yo…

Hello All, Just thought I would see who is attending the physical and Medical on the 14th November 08:00 at HQ? And what everyone is worried most about? For me it's the eye test! I'm "Moderate Deutan" (colour deficiency) which I found out from an online test... Reliable I'm sure. There is limited information on the police and eye sight requirements - still not sure if I can join with said problem! Fitness I'm a lazy bodybuilder that struggles to motivate myself to do cardio. So i'll probably pass out. Other than practically worrying about the whole day I'd say I was confident and excited! If my eye sight fails me do they give you a form to take to opticians? I hear…

Hi All, I have my AC for Avon and Somerset Regs on the 20th. Having looked at the info they sent me they have said the following about the interview. The interview will last for 20 minutes and we will ask you four questions. There will be two questions about your motivations and values and how these relate to the Police Service. There will be two questions about how you have dealt with specific situations in the past. Having passed my specials AC I am familiar with the scenario questions, however am not sure about the values questions. Has anybody got any experience of these, and can give me an idea of what to expect? Thanks in advance
