Hello, Exciting news—I've successfully met the eligibility criteria for the PCDA role and am thrilled to attend a familiarisation event next week. Joining this program is a long-time goal, and any insights or guidance you can offer would be immensely appreciated. My background is in Mental Health and spans from starting as a support worker to evolving into a mental health nurse. Despite my rewarding experiences, my aspiration has always been to serve as a police officer. Throughout my nursing career, I've extensively supported individuals dealing with forensic aspects like substance abuse and exploitation cases. I hope this background equips me well for the asse…

Anyone have any knowledge on the transfer process for Avon and Somerset? I have been looking at a transfer with them and I have an application on the way but I was hoping that someone may have been or are in the process of transferring. They are concentrating on the Bristol LPA at this time for transferees (which is great for me) but if anyone has any ideas on timescales or any general info would be handy.

Hi guys, I've just been told that I've successfully passed my Special Constable Interview. It's been my third attempt and I'm so pleased to make it this far. However I'm really worried that I'm going to fail my medical as I've been taking citalopram for moderate anxiety/depression for the past two years. I've found the medication extremely helpful and I can honestly say that it has had zero impact on my ability to work. I've noticed that many people have failed their medical being told that they need to have been off the medication for 24 months. I called HR during my last attempt but I was simply told that it is "treated on a case by case basis". Can anyone shed some lig…

Hi all, just wondering if anyone is in the same boat as me and waiting for a course. I transferred over my assessment centre scores to A&S when they opened in December 2017 and along with others were fast tacked to do a medical/ vetting uniform fitting in January, as we had already done the bulk of recruitment. I was told both on the phone, when I first transferred my stuff and on the medical the goal was to get us on an April course. Now April course has started and one guy from my medical I know of has been put on it, yet I’ve heard nothing. I rang recruitment a couple weeks ago and they told me I had passed all my clearance checks and now to just wa…

hi all, i achieved 57% at my assessment centre and achieved the national standard, my force requires 60%, (but i have wanted to move anyways) avon and somerset have stated they are national standard and want 50%, but they stated you need to have 50% in each competency as well... does anyone know is this referring to the main four such as... Oral communication - 100% achieved written capability - 61% achieved overall mark - 57% achieved working with others - 52% achieved the above 4 are the ones the college of policing want above 50% to hit the national standard which i achieved or are A/S referring to sub competencies all above 50% such as…

Good Morning guys I am currently going through the transfer process from the Met to A&S, as a Police Constable I wondered if anyone has gone through this process? I was looking to find information about the process itself, what is expected at the assessment centre, other than medical and fitness, is there any paper tests or role plays etc? Also once the vetting and all checks have come back successful, how long is the refresher training, before you are assigned to your team? If there is any serving officers for A&S, could you tell me what its like to work for A&S, how long you served and what area are you based in with the pros and cons, as…

Hi, a quick question to anyone who is working for or knows when Avon and Somerset will be bringing in the need for a degree qualification to be able to join the Police force? And would the salary be similar to the probationers salary currently being paid? Thanks in advance, Julian.

Hi all, I am currently waiting for Avon and Somerset to open recruitment and I am wondering, as I read somewhere, is it possible to get assigned to any particular unit whilst going through probation? i.e. detectives ,or are the 2 years just done as a general duties officer to gain overall experience? Thanks in advance, Julian

Just returned from holiday and have my paperwork for my March start date! What are people's thoughts on using the accommodation available? I live locally but have been advised by someone that it is good to stay onsite to really benefit. Charlotte

Hi I had an email last week from A&S saying they are going to reduce the training courses within this year and that the process could take until next year to complete. Gutted cannot describe how I feel especially when the recruitment team told me I may have to resit my assessment centre again. Anyone else had the same email? Mike

Hi there, I couldn't see any previous posts about training with A&S specials but apologise if it has already been covered. Without specifics that could compromise security, what would a trainee be expected to do during training? Is this something done within the local station? Also do you have a choice about where to serve?? Thanks in advance. Sent from my iPhone using Police Community
