Eleven councillors from a rural Somerset town have resigned their posts having had a bellyful of a local blogger who waged a concerted online campaign against them. Niall Connolly has variously accused Somerton Town Council of corruption, called them "jackasses" and slammed a "Good Citizens" statement as "a Nazi call to arms or an invitation to ethnic cleansing". His Muck&Brass blog is a chronicle of his struggle to restore democracy to Somerton - a town which was until a Tuesday night council meeting apparently under a fearful jackboot of oppression. The meeting proved eventful, with vice chairman Anthony Canvin leading a mass exodus, as a delighted Connolly repor…

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2090845/Tony-Blair-signed-secret-deal-Gibraltar-Spain.html Coming from Northern Ireland where you can't fly the union flag from police/fire stations and wearing a poppy in a particular area can earn you a kicking, visiting Gibraltar was a breath of fresh air. Here is a tiny piece of Britain at the tip of Spain where the people have Spanish names and the union flag and pictures of the Queen are everywhere. Having visited Gibraltar four times over the years it is clear that Gibraltarians are fiercely loyal and proud to be a part of Britain....and here we have Tony Blair, the very man who let terrorists out of jail and set them up as …

Dear all, I'm looking for a bit of help and/or advice on a situation I'm finding rather difficult to understand, and I'm not really sure how to overcome it. Allow me to set the scene... I live in a 4-bedroom Victorian terraced house in London; it's not huge, but not a bad size either. I rent it from a friend of mine and his wife who own the house, and have been living here for about a year & six months. In this house are 3 other people; more 'acquaintances' than 'friends' - one lives in a bedroom on the ground floor between the living room & kitchen, and the other two live like myself in bedrooms upstairs. We have an Argentinian girl who lives in the downstair…

Benefit cap defeat will be reversed, says Clegg Nick Clegg has said ministers will seek to overturn a Lords defeat for plans to cap benefits for households at £26,000, when the bill returns to the Commons. The Welfare Reform Bill looks set to "ping pong" between the two chambers, after peers voted to exclude child benefit from the overall cap. Ministers say that would raise the cap to the take home pay of someone on a £50,000 salary, making it "pointless". Former party leader Lord Ashdown was among 26 Lib Dem peers to rebel. The peer said that as president of the United Nations children's agency Unicef, he could not back the government's plans in their current for…

India's Finance Minister referred to the financial aid given by Britain to his country as nothing more than 'peanuts', it is claimed. It is also claimed that Pranab Mukherjee and other Indian ministers tried to reject the money - around £280million a year - from the UK in 2011, but the British Government 'begged' them to take the money. The Sunday Telegraph claims that the Indian government were disposed to reject the money in April last year, because of the 'negative publicity of Indian poverty' highlighted by the aid. Rejected: RAF Typhoons fell to second place, despite the belief that controversial aid packages would secure the India contract for Britain …

I saw in the press a story about a big cat, possibly a panther, seen in Gloucestershire and believed responsible for killing deer. We have a wild lynx which has visited our garden. We first saw it one evening while driving up our driveway. When I was about half way up our drive, 70m or so from the garage doors, my wife and I saw what looked like a large, thin, pale-coloured dog standing right in front of them. It froze in our headlights as we approached and we quickly realised it was a very large cat with a short, fat tail. It had spots and a face like a cheetah, but not quite as big. Then we saw the tufts above its ears and knew immediately what it was - a lynx. As w…
