Am I reading this right? Our Government is arguing the fact that we don't have the right to wear a cross? I don't get this. If that's the case I think that's disgusting: what are they trying to do? Will they also be arguing for the removal of all other religious icons? Link

Pakistan, India, now Argentina. Whilst the rest of the world, and those countries, must surely be laughing at us (and often not even behind our backs but in our faces), why do we persist on throwing money away we are constantly being told we haven't got? Here's Argentina rattling sabres over the Falklands, yet here we are contributing to aid? Do you agree with international aid as it stands, or Is it about time we simply said 'no'? Link.

Continued here. One in four adults not being able to do basic maths is a shocking state of affairs although I'm not sure things are much better here in Scotland in all honesty.

Have they now got nukes? Iran pledges to unveil 'big, new nuclear achievements' By DAILY MAIL REPORTER Last updated at 4:38 PM on 11th February 2012 Comments (0) Share Iran will soon unveil 'big new' nuclear achievements, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claimed today. But the Iranian leader was careful to reiterate Tehran's readiness to revive talks with the West over the country's controversial nuclear program. Ahmadinejad spoke at a rally in Tehran as tens of thousands of Iranians marked the 33rd anniversary of the Islamic Revolution that toppled the pro-Western monarchy and brought Islamic clerics to power. Rally cry: Iranian president M…

There is an article on the BBC website today about how families hide wealth to avoid care-home fees: currently if a person has more than £23,250 in assetts (including your home) then they have to fund their own (very expensive) care-home fees if they need to go into one. That's not a lot of money, and, if you have a mortgage, you will almost certainly lose your home. Does this strike anyone else as extremely unjust? If you have done the right thing, been responsible, saved and been conservative with your money then you are effectively punished. If you have been feckless and spent all your money then the state will provide for you. I feel that when my parents retire, or …

Not sure if many have been following the story of 65 year old Chris Tappin. extradited to the US after claims that he conspired to sell batteries for use in Iranian missiles. The extradition system in this country was quick enough to hand him over to the US, but yet we still have that terrorist loving animal Qatada in this country! You really have to laugh at the claims by the Federal Prosecutor that he could be a "danger to the community" if released. A Briton extradited to the United States over allegations of arms dealing has been denied bail. Chris Tappin, 65, of Orpington, SE London, was extradited on February 24 after claims that he conspired to sell batteries…

I've come to realise over the past few months quite how little the general public seems to understand about the climate and climate change. This is perfectly understandable but also quite worrying given the impact that changes in climate can have. I understand for some people they will always hold a belief regardless of how much evidence you put in front of them because of their political beliefs. However, I think a lot of people are quite confused by the whole thing and don't quite know what to make of it. I don't seek to make anybody think in a certain way with this thread but hopefully it will allow people to have a better understanding and avoid many of the common myt…

Source: http://www.aljazeera.com/news/asia-pacific/2012/02/20122294486118604.html I thought it was worth posting this for a number of reasons. Firstly; the brutality of the attack against armed security personnel, secondly; the numbers of people injured and killed, thirdly; the fact that it hasn't been reported by mainstream Western media outlets, and fourthly; because it is reminder that terrorism needn't use 'spectacular' methods at all.
