Three officers have made maritime history by becoming the first female submariners to serve in the Royal Navy. Lieutenants Maxine Stiles, Alexandra Olsson and Penny Thackray have completed months of specialised training to earn their "Dolphins" - the clasp worn by qualified submariners - becoming the first women in the 110-year history of the Navy's Submarine Service. For years women were unable to serve on submarines because of possible health risks but, after an independent review found that only pregnant women should not serve, Defence Secretary Philip Hammond lifted the ban in December 2011. Following the arrival of woman officers, female ratings (non-commissioned …

A very thought-provoking video - a man gets violent with a woman and people step in, but what happens when the roles are reversed? (Warning: strong language)

Don't really know much of politics, however not the sort of person who would waste their vote. I'm not poor but I'm not rich, don't have my own home as I can't afford it at the moment etc etc so sort of sit in the place where I don't know what parties (probably talking of the top 3) would do for me personally. Does anyone therefor know what party, being in power, may benefit me the most being a police officer?

Today I discovered that Greenwich Council have quietly shelved plans for a public memorial for Lee Rigby, I goggled and it seems that it was in the Mirror earlier in the month but I was only told today and as far as I can tell no other major paper has picked up the story. They(The council) aren't even going to pay for a small brass plaque to be placed in the town hall in his memory It's against the wishes of His Family, and the people of Woolwich who've said they're prepared to pay for it from public donation, when it's confirmed I can see elements of the Public kicking off so don't be surprised if you're called in to Woolwich/Eltham

Has anyone else watched this? I find it absolutely appalling. For those of you who don’t know what it’s about, basically the programme follows a pair of newly “qualified” drivers on their first journeys with their friends. Everything is recorded on cameras in the car and is reviewed by an ‘ex traffic cop’ and advanced driving instructor. They then decide whether or not to make the driver do advanced lessons, or buy them a brand new car. The standards of driving are awful. They go through red lights, they cut up other drivers, they narrowly miss pedestrians, drive the wrong way up one-way streets, and one did a U-turn on a slip road. The list goes on. In my opinion there…

The Danish Government produced an advert to encourage young people to vote in the upcoming European elections. The result was banned within 24 hours with the Danish Parliament chair himself describing it as 'unacceptably lame'. The link is below and shows Voteman doing his thing - what do you think? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gT4lhERDZ8s

Found an interesting little tool. Shows you areas to work on and areas you excel at in terms of workplace resilience. Worth it if you have 20 mins to spare. Also useful as an exercise to do amongst work colleagues. http://www.robertsoncooper.com/iresilience/
