I watched on the news last night report of the appearance of Christopher Halliwell at Swindon Magistrates Court to answer a charge of murder in connection with the death of Sian O’Callaghan. What really surprised me was the mob who were waiting outside the court for police convoy carrying Halliwell appear before attacking the police convoy. The coverage on the news did not show any arrests being made, surely attacking a police prisoner escort convoy would be criminal damage or section 5 public order offences, whilst I understand tempers being high, never the less this does not excuse an attack on police escorting a prisoner. I bumped into a well known prolific offender whilst out shopping me with my family,him with hes. I could tell that he had changed he had moved from sunderland to a differant town. He told me he had settled down , had a job, family which to me equals stability. Does any one think that a once career criminal , with over 15 years spent in prison and only aged 36 could change. If this lad can do it anyone can. Could we not harness these reformed characters and try to get them to speak to people young and old to help them change. What do the rest of the boys in blue think?

Driving home on Sunday afternoon after a day out in the car, I drove through a town near where I live and observed a group of approximately 15 youths steal from the front garden of a house a large heavy stone ornamental statue and carry the item off along the road towards the direction I was travelling in, first thing that came to mind was to about turn and stop the group and recover the item before it was used for criminal damage or to put a window in or worse. It never ceases to amaze me the difference between what we get from dispatch and the reality on scene. Today call comes over the radio "Large Black Bull loose near the high school chasing children" . The closest people to this are the parole and probation dept as we are finishing up paper work for the day, ( it is my work crew supervisor day). We respond and see in the elementary school field a small black steer with two white socks peacefully grazing. We approach and it is very tame, lets me pet its nose and ambles into the brush. I am currently working on the outline for a new project, although I did 20 years in the job I never had a substantiated complaint as such I never paid much attention to the disciplinary side of things. Does anybody know who makes up the disciplinary review board for a charge of Gross Misconduct. i.e. what rank and how many people, I'm assuming it would be the Chief Officer +2 much like Mags Court? How successful were they? what was the crime reduction rate (if known)? I'm also interested in noting those policing operations which werent successful- these seem to be harder to research (not as much is published) any help would be much appreciated many thanks
