is it a one trick pony? or should there be choice? http://www.specialspro.com/ has launched with the idea of giving Specials a choice of forums is that a bad idea? or should Specials have more than one site to choose from?

Hello I was just wondering if anyone knows of Specials who are also street pastors. What are peoples views on doing this? Does it work to do both roles (obviously at different times!!) If people are doing it, how does it work - do both on same patch or different? What about being a youthworker and special - same questions - does it work to do both?

I'm still in training at the moment but, I want to go down to the station at which I'm going to be based to find out what sort of things they are dealing with at the moment and what sort of shifts they work. But it's also to do a little hello to the people I'll be working alongside, I'm concerned however, if I do phone up and ask to come down they'll think I'm odd for wanting to visit and say hello and consider me a partial, if not a full, gnumpty. So basically what I'm asking for is advice on how to introduce myself to the people I'll be working with after training without sounding like too much of a gnumpty and a twit if that makes sense.

Is it part time like a training session every set peroid or is it all in one?

How would I go about finding out the first 2 digits of my Warrant Number? (the 2 not shown on the card).

This can probably be answered very quickly by someone, it’s just come to me and don’t have a mobile signal to text so thought I’d ask before I forget I issued a S.27 the other night following a call from PCSOs. Luckily the Sgt was there with us so wasn’t an issue. On the form it asks for the supervisors’ signature, as I said he was there so was all well and good this time. What happens if I want to issue one when there are no supervisors out with us? Is it a case of I can’t or do they sign my copy of the S.27 when I get back to say they’ve seen it and know its in force? Or is it a case of I can’t issue it without a supervisor being present. Evening all, i have just started on my msc foundation course and i was just wondering that when i pass i am not sure as to what shift i would like to start my first duty on, so in your opinion what is the best shift to start on, day or night???????? many thanks!

Hi, i was just wondering how long will take to become a specail from applying to becomeing one

I got a text from my Sgt in the week asking if i (along with 9 other specials) wanted to go to the helicopter unit on Monday for 3 hours. I know we'll not be flying in it as it costs the force X amount each time it's launched. But I'm sure whatever they have planned for us will be very insightful and enjoyable. Have any of you already had an opportunity to do this with your force? If so, what did you get up to? If not, would you want to?

Reasons why I like my borough 1) All MSC officers can choose what days they work, you are NOT told you must come in every friday, or you can NOT work on Tuesday, we are very flexible on where you can come in 2) All MSC officers are given the option if they want to work on team or SNT 3) MSC officers are paired with either regular pc's or other IPS specials 4) MSC officers have got basic driving courses, and there are 3 - 4 Response drivers. 5) We do NOT have the rowdy bus that goes out every Friday night 6) I think it's a great place to work We are always looking for more people to join our borough

I know this may seem a daft and stupid question, but being new to the force these questions are popping into my head. I understand Police Officers are required to have their warrant card with them at all times, even off duty. So while you are off duty, where or how do you carry the warrant card to avoid the possibility of you loosing it or someone pick pocketing it. While having my uniform fitting I noticed we get a holder the size of a small wallet. My normal wallet is bulky enough in my trouser pocket (and no it's not because it's full of money) without adding the warrant card wallet as well. As the title says really, what are the jobs specials cannot do?! I remember the obvious ones like security/doorstaff, I imagine being a burglar is frowned upon too ;-) But what are the other jobs, the obvious and less obvious??

Today I got the bus to an I grade call. We were first on scene. It was inner London at about 0930 ........ very sureal. Has anyone else got odd police transport stories to share?
