From being on these forums a while now, it strikes me that there are very different attitudes across different serving officers, even amongst specials. Some are really excited by the job, whilst others seem to absolutely hate it (but wouldn't swap to an office job for the world) What are your reasons for joining the Police, or wanting to join? There are all the interview reasons people give: "To help the community" and "To give something back" - but what really gets you up in the morning? Is it the thrill of the unexpected? The officer was asking me about an incident involving a member of agency staff working for the railway and a passenger. the two managed to get in to a small fight The member of agency staff was not happy that the officer did not arrest the passenger (6 of 1 half dozen of the other in my view) Agency guy should have walked away. Both were swearing at each other (I thought about doing them both for the bylaw offence of abusive language, but did not want to make a bad situation worse) and both grabbed each other up. Just a simple question really.... What do they do?

It's been rather a while since I posted on here, simply because I hadn't heard anything from the Police with regards to recruitment/ride-along for a few months. However, just recently, the rather awkward silence was broken, and I was offered a placement on a ride-along (with the late shift)! Happy days! I'm going this Saturday, and I have a few little questions: 1) What should I wear? I was told to wear comfy clothes, yes, but I mean with regards to coats and things. I know that Avon and Somerset Constabulary like to issue stab-vests to ride-along people just in case, so wearing a billion layers seems rather impractical in that respect. 2) Is there any general advice…

Before I start, I am asking this in relation to E&W SCs who work for the NPIA in their day job, as I'm aware that Scottish SCs are already classed as Members of a Police Force. Just reading my Blackstone's law book, and I've noticed where it defines a member of a police force (in relation to impersonation offences), it states 'This includes a member of the staff of the NPIA who is a constable'. Now I know two SCs in Surrey who work for the NPIA and are incidentally constables as well, so does this make them 'members of a police force' different to other SCs?

Hi everyone, I am in the latter stages of the ‘Specials’ recruitment process, so I hope to be on duty in the not too distance future provided I pass training etc. I hope to become a regular one day. However, the point of my post is this – After a bit of research on various websites, I am under the impression that after a certain amount of years duty ‘on the beat’ as a regular police constable, you are given the opportunity to specialise in certain fields within the police force – perhaps not as straight forward as this? The term "institutionalisation" is widely used in social theory to refer to the process of embedding something (for example a concept, a social role, a particular value or mode of behaviour) within an organisation, social system, or society as a whole. I'm left wondering if the Police Service actively encourages police officers (PC/Regular) to become "institutionalised" or does it value contrasting perspective/viewpoints?

I've followed a lot of YouTube advice to polishing up boots. I've seen how they should look ( an army guy at a wedding I shot last year had amazingly smoothly polished boots). I've got "SWAT Original" boots which I've done the following to; Applied Kiwi black polish with a dampened cotton bud. Each layer is heated with a lighter and the process repeated several times - they recommend about 5 polishings. Done this 5 times instructed and then applied Kiwi Parade Gloss Prestige. I have recently heard rumours that special constabulary volunteers will have the oppertunity to become regular officers after a probationary 18months service, providing they passs the recuritment process of course, any one know of there being any truth in this?

It appears to me that in the US there is far more incidence of the video recording of Police misconduct, generally from the police's own devices. I have a few questions, do the police visiting here not think it's high time the UK police were fitted out with cameras? Hi all, Just thought I would share. I was at a PO incident last night when I got a face full of spray from a colleague. Does it work? Yes it really does, so painful and zero chance of being able to see. It a way though I'm glad I got a face full as I really feel confident in future use to protect myself. Every cloud has a silver lining I suppose Has any body else experienced the effects? How did you find it? Matt.

I'm in my last year of compulsory schooling and as i've said before I am serious about joining the police. As we're all getting older, peoples personalities are starting to show a lot about them and it's becoming easier to guess the future "criminals" some are just by they way they look at crime as a goal in life and others is when they walk past you in the corridor absolutley smelling of weed (before any question get asked as to how I know the smell of weed, I was lucky enought to be shown the drugs cabinet on work experience in the property office!!)
