I was just wondering if you was a serving special and was applying to become a full time PC, at what stage of the application would you have to resign from being a special? I know this may possibly be force specific but then again might not be so i put it here. im in the late stages of becoming a special with Herts btw.

I have been asked if I would like to go on an upcoming driving course, which is now called Stage 1, but has been known by many monikers in the past. It basically Patrol (Inc compliant stops), and I'm looking for any (current/in date) hints and tips for the course. Think it is fairly standard on a national basis, and is the one day course. Any AvSom specific info would be good. Without upsetting the Mods, any course info would be appreciated, i.e. What to expect. Also, any preps or reading that would be useful. I have the Police Driver Handbook, so will be revisiting that. I know that people have failed in the past, so obviously lookin to not do that! Thanks.

When I joined I was given literature that clearly stated that we are there to assist the regulars, yet today there seem to be more specials than ever who simply dragging along, not doing duties, not attending training, and simply are either unable or unwilling to commit to the minimum hours. In my area alone I would say with confidence that applies to about 75% of officers. Would it not be better to get rid of those that don't perform and use the money saved to better invest in those of us that do work to provide an even better service to the forces that we serve? I was just wondering that when do officers cuff in front and when do they cuff behind back? Also, sometimes they cuff behind the back palm to palm and somtimes they cuff behind with the suspects hands crossed. What is the reason for both these positions and why do officers hold on to the black plastic part of the cuffs after cuffing a suspect while leading the suspect into the car/van?

Watching the final episode of Waking The Dead got me wondering if tv companies over exaggerate this issue when running stories? As the dramas I've seen always seem to have a high ranking officer doing the dirty, and a lower ranking officer finding out, and reporting the senior officer. Does this really reflect true life, or are they really pushing the limits here, and ending up wide of the truth? The Bill had the storyline of 1 officer causing racial tensions to rise so much, that the CI ended up having his patrol car petrol bombed, and in the same story an officer try and cover up his use of fraudulent bank notes by setting fire to the room they were in, and resulting…

I had recently dealing with a local builder / developer who uses a agricultural tractor to move around building materials such as top soil and other items from a building site. Tractor uses a large trailer to move construction material and soil to and from a building site. Speaking with an old friend there may be offences I am told in relation to construction and use of the tractor and in respect of the use of red diesel on the public highway and possible other RTA offences, does anyone have experience of this type of thing and what offences exist in relation to the use of red diesel in relation to the use of tractors on the pubic highway. right, i have got my cs exposure coming up and i was just wondering whats the best way to deal with it as i have heard that the effects can be savage!

As you probably already know, in the MET to transfer from SC to PC you'll need to undertake a 16 day Police Law Communities course without pay. I believe Surrey police already make this a requirement. I'd like to get a head start, seeing as the MET expect you to do 10 hours a week private study too during the course. However, I can't find any books or literature about the PLC course anywhere, has anyone found any decent resources?

Hello All I have jumped through the hoops, and started my classroom training this weekend. Loved it and i am actually annoyed that easter is in the way and can not get going again now until May. Due to my kids growing uo i have waited almost 18 years to pursue this course of action. Million dollar question is will i be dissapointed, or is it as great a challenge and as rewarding as i have thought. If nothing else it helped me shed two stone and get back to a good level of fitness again.
