Hi all, it's my first post here! I'd like to hear the experiences of civilian members of police staff regarding being outsourced into the private sector. My force recently announced to all civilian staff that they intend to outsource as much as possible to a private company, including the control room where I work. Naturally we are all very, very worried and the force has done absolutely nothing to reassure us or provide us with any information. So how will the proposed changes affect you? Does anyone on here stand to gain anything and be better off as the report suggests? I'm yet to hear of anyone saying they'll be earning any extra because they work unsociable hours. Is anyone like me contemplating handing in specialism tickets to remove the increased likelihood of cancelled rest days?

Where I live I've recently noticed a lot of cars parked outside the apartment for sale By putting them on a public road and sticking signs in them. As I look out of the window there's 5 cars parked there which is stopping me and other residents parking out side of the flat on either side of the road. I've just been on the askmid website and checked 3 of them, of the three, two are showing as having no record of insurance. Is there a way to report these as it's a nuisance having all these cars parked out side.

Just a little thing that is getting a litltle tiresome. I am all for people asking question but why do people insist on asking questions so specific that only the recruitment team for their force would know? It's asif they are scared to ask recruitment questions! Allthough people on here can be very informative there are some questions we can only guess!

Evening! Sorry if it's a bit of a stupid question... I bought an audio learning CD online on a bit of whim without looking properly at the description, it arrived and it was made in 2003 and updated in 2004. Is this out of date and not worth listening to or will most of the legislation still be correct and apply? Thanks

Wasn't sure what part of the forum to put this in so feel free to move. What's the deal for people in the "real world" (I.e non police officers ) when it comes to attending court? Are employers legally obliged to give time off? What about pay? - is it just down to goodwill or is there legislaton in place?or do costs pay out of poket allowances? (as they do for jury service) what, also, happens to people's jobs if they are a defendant? Even held on remand? Are their jobs protected pending the outcome of the case? Surely people can't be left impercunious after being aquitted? One could surely lose huge amounts in earning and potentiallly lose homes etc whilst waiting for…

Hello I was just wondering if anyone knows of Specials who are also street pastors. What are peoples views on doing this? Does it work to do both roles (obviously at different times!!) If people are doing it, how does it work - do both on same patch or different? What about being a youthworker and special - same questions - does it work to do both?

I'm still in training at the moment but, I want to go down to the station at which I'm going to be based to find out what sort of things they are dealing with at the moment and what sort of shifts they work. But it's also to do a little hello to the people I'll be working alongside, I'm concerned however, if I do phone up and ask to come down they'll think I'm odd for wanting to visit and say hello and consider me a partial, if not a full, gnumpty. So basically what I'm asking for is advice on how to introduce myself to the people I'll be working with after training without sounding like too much of a gnumpty and a twit if that makes sense.
