Hi Everyone As from the topic title i have been inspired to carry out some research after failing vetting for the specials. This came as quite a blow to me, as im of the opinion its due to my "father" who i have nothing to do with. I study Criminology and Psychology at the University of Gloucestershire and have just handed in my Dissertation proposal form, and just want to test the water on hear, as this would be my primary source of data. The proposed research will allow an analysis of the police vetting process, and highlight possible issues surrounding the lower classes of society and how they are being excluded due to criminalogical theory. Hi guys and girls :D Thought I'd post up and introduce myself.. I've just finished a 5 year apprenticeship type scheme as a surveyor which I started after school/college.. I've always wanted to join the police in some way, and have been thinking about joining as a Special for the past few years.. Haven't because over the last 5 years I've had to work 4 days a week and then study one day, with all the work in the evenings to boot! Finally finished my course, so seems the right time! After a conversation the other night it got me thinking. Currently the Met are only accepting applications from serving specials and PCSOs, I can see other forces following this entrance route. So, should forces be allowed to either get rid of the Day 1 & 2 recruitment exams, and introduce their own assessment methods such as being observed by trained assessors or similar. I think this would create a more level playing field as some people struggle at the Day 1 which is a poor test of people skills as it is a very fake environment and allows good people to fail and poor ones to pass Unfortunatly I'm unable to add a pole so if any of the mods feel this could do with…

If someone is abusive would you do them for? Would it be a ticket / arrest?.2 examples; You are walking down the street and someone shouts "f*****g pig" Or if you are patrolling in the car and someone sticks their middle finger up at you??

In the clip below it shows disorder in Dunoon (Scotland) where Strathclyde police are restraining a violent male,when his friend runs up and kicks the officer off his friend whos on the ground. At that point batons are drawn and the male struck and brought to the ground,but still resists arrest. at 1min-11secs in the video the officer appears to kick the the male in the stomach, is his actions proportionate and justified? I got to thinking; For those of you who are Special Constables - If you ever joined as a regular officer would you consider still doing some kind of voluntary work? For those of you who are regular officers - Have you ever thought about / Do you currently give up your time as a volunteer? Feel free to post more choices for the poll, these are from the top of my head.

Someone said something to me the other day....and it got me thinking! What laws are Police exempt from? (Can you provide the evidence please as well) I'll start with the first (as per another thread on "quitting"): Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986. Regulation 107. Leaving motor vehicles unattended. (1) Save as provided in paragraph (2)... ...the stopping of the engine shall not apply in respect of a vehicle :- (a) being used for...police purposes;

you can't put a cordon in place without people claiming that they "must" come through....but if the police don't do something and someone get's hurt then the police didn't do enough. This hasn't happened to me, nor do I do it, let me just get the clear I am just wondering that's all. If you pulled someone driving a car and found a mobile phone in between there legs maybe the typical place where someone would put the phone in readiness to use the phone whilst driving would you take action or is there not enough evidence ?

Just wondering what do other forces do on the pre-patrol weekend. In WYP our training base is turned into like a mini-village where we are put in pairs/group with vests/radios/hats and sent to different situations within the base and there will be regular officers acting out. I think during this weekend we learnt the most. So do all forces do this or if not what do yours do. Just curious.

Hello everyone, I just submitted my application for Special Constable in the MET online and thought it would be a good idea to join the forum. From what I have read here so far the recruitment process can take a fair bit of time which at least gives me a chance to brush up my skills and improve my fitness etc, etc. I must confess I am a little concerned about the whole process, my record isn't squeaky clean and my handwriting is not very neat which to be honest was why I applied online, I usually print everything in block capitals and have been writing like that for the last 20 years so its going to take me a while to adjust to writing properly again, I can actually wri…
