Hi, I saw this, (http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/22321) which was recently created. Unlike many of the policing petitions of late I think this one is eminently supportable and that the officer (Sergeant Nigel Tompsett) has actually had the guts to stick his face and name to it. All he asks is that MPs debate the issue and that the Home Secratary not be allowed to change the terms of the deal some officers have been paying into for nearly the last 30 years. It's worth noting, that Britain has never defaulted on it's soverign debt and along with the US is one of the only countries to ever do so. I know it has been discussed but don't know if how was mentioned. I know of a serving S/Sgt who has the luck of going to New York, she mentioned that she would love to do a shift, and I was sure that people here had managed to do something along those lines. So question is how do we get the ball rolling for her? Does anyone have existing routes or contacts? Thanks

FACEBOOK The bane of my life and I'm sure it's the same everywhere else. Facebook jobs seem to crop up all the time now and it's almost always some pathetic squabble where both parties have some serious growing up to do. Granted, there are some instances of genuine harassment and bullying, which I always deal with appropriately but how many times have we turned up to these sorts of jobs and ended up wanting to bang their heads together? Hey guys, I have my first moot coming up (a bit like a mock trial) and I have, somehow, become lead counsel. Essentially the moot is about Police powers during public order, kettling and the like. I've been given the role of defending the police. Now, we have various cases that we can refer to, such as the Austin case, but I thought "Hey, what better place to ask for a bit of additional information than right here?". So I figured i'd ask what sort of powers the Police actually have when dealing with Public Order situations, where I can find the legislation for it etc. I'm looking for links to detailed information generally about what can be used, when, from deploying …

Maybe there is a similar thread already in existence, but I can't find it. What is the most obscure offence you've arrested (or otherwise prosecuted) someone on suspicion of? I'll start the ball rolling, I nicked someone for distributing a harmful substance contrary to the General Product Safety Regulations 2005 (and the story made it as far as 'The Sun').

Hello all! Occasionally, there are times when a good turnout from the Special Constabulary would be much appreciated (New Year, Halloween, Bonfire night, or even just a Friday/Saturday night shift). However, as volunteers, I'm of the opinion that provided officers are putting in the necessary hours, if they can't/won't volunteer for certain duties they shouldn't be made to feel like they're doing something wrong. I also don't feel that there should be any requirement for those who aren't volunteering for these specific duties to have to explain themselves or provide reasons why they can't make the duty. Hello, Two years ago, I was an idiot. On a one off, I decided to take the wrong decision and smoke a joint in London. I did not posses any cannabis on me personally nor have I ever possessed any. A couple of plain clothes policemen stopped me and the other person smoking it. I had the joint in my hand. I did not have any other stuff on me. I was cautioned (I signed a form) and the other person was cautioned with possession (who also signed a form). This was a one off, stupid, idiotic mistake that I would never, ever do again.
