Hello everybody! Recently whilst attending jobs I have noticed an extraordinary amount of people come running up to us shouting that fearsome sentence "I'm from the neighbourhood watch" or equally as popular "I'm the neighbourhood watch coordinator". Now, 8 times out of 10 these people can be exceptionally helpful due to their particularly observant nature. They are usually the ones who are able to give us great detail as a witness and this is fantastic and can sometimes lead to results on jobs. As my signature says, i applied back in January and now a little over 11 months i have my final week of training. Starting tomorrow and training everyday (excluding Wednesday for strike) , and with my Attestation on Friday evening . Training has been great, and only just scratching the surface. All the fun stuff to look forward to this week as in PST (bruises expected, lol). I have my first shift on Sunday 4th and to say im nervous is an understatement, but at the same time i can’t wait. Looking forward to a long career as a special and hopefully a Regular in the future .

Should all UK Officers carry guns while on duty? Does gun crime warrant such a change? Should off duty officers like in the US Carry guns? As the quote I heard US cops say "Stop or I will shoot" and UK cops say "stop or I will say stop again!" Do we need guns to command more respect or do we need better training? Points above I am asking questions, does not mean I agree or disagree with any of my questions, I would like to know what others think. Please give sensible answers that add something to the discussion.

I had my OST refresher today, and one of the subjects brought up was on the subject of excited delirium. Apparently there was a recent case in my force of ED where the subject survived, but ED can result in death very quickly. We were advised to watch the following video of US officers dealing with someone who died from this condition - this may be of benefit to serving officers, hence why I've posted it here. Although I'd heard the term 'excited delirium' already, I knew nothing about it before today. This video isn't overly graphic compared to some, but it does show a man dying - hence this warning.

Something I've been thinking about recently.. most of the SC's I've seen at our nick are in their early 20's. There are a few exceptions, but mostly being a SC seems to be perceived as a young person's game. A shame, as those in their 40's or older bring so much maturity and life experience to the job. Anyone got any ideas on how to attract more 40-50+ applicants when we next do recruiting? A.

hi everybody, im new and just found the site, im looking for some help if possible, im a security dog handler and not sure of the new powers that have been given to "any persons", my question is, are there any books about that goes into detail about this (like the blackstones) that pay more refrence to any persons powers as opposed to police powers? many thanks

I've been reading a few articles on the Scenario bit of the site and I just have a few questions in relation to some topics ive seen about submitting intelligence. So basicially where do we as Police Officers, PCSO's etc stand on submitting intelligence reports for incidents that have happened whilst off duty? Such as the example on the Scenario part about a moped or something driving erratically.
