Just a random thought which 'zapped' through my mind earlier today; so, does anyone here know whether officers who undergo Taser training experience it's effects by having the device deployed on them at any point during the course, much like the way we (well, Met anyway) get exposed to CS spray during training? Its probably force specific so state to which your knowledge refers if its a yes yes. Ta.

Hello All, I am doing a piece of research concerning the types of incapacitant sprays used accross the country. I appreciate that the majority of this information could be quickly obtained via force websites or individual requests to forces but this site was reccomended to me for a quick "snap-shot". I would be grateful if you would be able to add your force name and the type or incapacitant spray (i.e. CS or PAVA/Captor) used. I am particualrly interested if it was a very recent transition. What do you all think are Police Purposes? The term is used in several acts and pieces of delegated legislation, and of course affects what the police can spend money on. I have tried a couple of books and a few acts, but there is very little, except a bit in the Police Act 1996 about special functions for the Met.

Do you think special constables and police officers should get to do something such as a gun awareness course so that police officers and specials did not need to radio via for armed police officers come to a scene to make a gun safe even when no one is holding it?. As I know how make a gun safe so I don't see why a special constable or police officer could not do it.

I have to say I feel very much for anyone sleeping outside in a vehicle in this winter weather, it is a pity that there isn't a section house or room in the police station where the officer can sleep off duty. It is a very sad situation when we have officers due to financial situations sleeping out in there cars and vans, pity he could not rent a room from colleagues or friends. Perhaps this story might get the force welfare people involved or federation, I just hope that this does not lead to a discipline matter. Hi all, I am just waiting for vetting to come back for merseyside specials. I am just wondering if anyone has experienced any problems getting time off work (full time) to attend court etc? If so is there any specific legislation to allow time off work to attend court during a trial / hearing?

Hey guys Just a quickey. Got our first KEE on Jan 15th. We were given some mock examp papers to look at and the first question for each test seems to ask for the definition of The crime section, I.e. what is the definition of theft. Am I right in thinking in the actual exams we won't be asked to provide the full definition. I was thinking that we just needed to understand the definitions so to answer the multiple choice q's correctly. If I'm wrong then I really will have to hone that photographic memory for each crime definition. Merry crimbo all

Ello guys and gals, Right, I've been thinking this for some time so I thought I'd open it up to the professionals for discussion. Should Specials be allowed to be Taser trained? Your thoughts? I think we should be allowed to as we are Police Officers at the end of the day and sworn in. I would, however, put some limitations onto it. For example, only once you are independant, do over a certain amount of hours (in average) per month and are able to attend all training days. If you can do all that, I can't see why we shouldn't be allowed to further our training in that respect. Sam

Hey all, New here so give me a chance! I've just passed the final part of recruitment to become a special for Northumbria Police, so I'm just waiting for my training dates. On a recent journey in a taxi I told the driver about my soon to be fulfilled dream of becoming a Police Officer. What I didn't expect was a tirade of comments about that I'm far too young for the job, that I'm young enough to be his grandson etc etc. And it really got me thinking is this what I have to expect. I was wondering if anyone knows when Ncalt will be up, or if anyone has heard when it might be back up, iv recently been placed at borough and since my training finished it has been down, i am unable to start shifts and after meeting my team im really eager to get started with them, any ideas on what i should do? thanks in advance
