Been issued a Sepura handset. Know there are a number of things that you can do with them - (feel frre to add any non operational compromising tips you have learn't with them) One thing I need to try do is adjust the volume properly. It seems you can't turn it down enough and can't turn it up enough. Bit compromised in one ear due to gun fire years ago. Doesn't affect me operationally but have to put ear piece in that one, ok during normal activities but find that either can't turn down enough when speaking to someone or can't turn up enough to hear over sirens and shouting in public order incidents. Having just watched this video from the US got me thinking, would this ever happen in the UK? im fairly certain that a UK officer would never work again (in the police) after this video, but what if they were sacked for something a little closer to the line?

So what is the rules for dealing with people you actually know. Is there a spectrum? eg. where does the line be drawn on if you "know" someone... (family, close friend, Friend of a friend, dave from accounting, bartender at your local) For example, if you walked past someone in the street I can't see a problem with making pleasantries. But how about running into someone you know on a night out(whilst on shift) and having a 2 min chat. Or at the other scale, seeing someone you know committing an offence. Is there official police protocol or just a culture of how to deal with things like this..

No doubt there will be some that get no training, some that get some and other that get more, of varying quality/relevance too. Hi all, Like many I have always wanted to join the Police and after being unable to apply since I left Uni 2012 is the year I have decided to try and become a Special A few points to raise: a) Do people still think it will primarily be the most effective thing to do to gain entry as a Reg (I hope so!) b) Are we now seeing a time when even applying to volunteer as a Police Officer is a challenge in itself? I see the majority of forces are not even recruiting Specials....If so will we get to a point where Special applicants are "being binned"?

How sensitive is the human nose to alcohol (of the beverage type) The reason is that I have just been down the local shop, and popped into my local for a quick pint on the way home. On my return, my missus (nose of a bloodhound) said "You absolutely stink of alcohol" Now - I have had 1 pint of low strength bitter (3.5%) - honest m'lud, just 1 pint I am sure we have all stopped motorists who 'stink of alcohol' and this obviously gives a power to require, but can you gauge how much someone has had to drink from the smell alone

Well it looks like facebook and the dangers of social media have come back to bite several hundred officers in the past year or two according to the BBC web site, several have been sacked, disciplined or dealt with over inappropriate behaviour on the net. We had an in house training morning where I work around a year ago when we had a presentation from a senior officer from one of the national units to warn of the dangers of social media, facebook and open source information available on the internet for all to see, the advice was that social media can come back to get you in all manner of unthinkable ways.
