OK..day off and musing about my current career and future prospects. I have worked in a customer/public facing environment for a couple of decades. I think i have good instincts and i know people. I have often thought that i chose the wrong career but that was a long time ago and i guess im older and hopefully wiser now. This post isnt critical or meant to be offensive so please dont get all uppity about it. I'm just wondering who specials are,why they join and what are their aspirations? I guess its been asked before. I mean...being a regular is good. You are in the system, you get paid, there is a chance of progression and all the benefits that flow from it. Being …

Out of interest would you, knowing what you know now, knowing what the job actually is and knowing the conditions and pay we'll now be receiving in return for it, would you actually join up...? Whatever your answer, explain... Just wondering! I fall into the 2-4 year category having joined in my early 20s, and have to say I'd NEVER join today's Police. We're uniformed social workers, despised by all and shafted by many, and I find myself getting closer and closer to launching my Warrant Card at the next civilian who criticises me from behind their 9-5 desk!

Hi all! I am new to the forum and have my 1st assessment tomorrow so have been doing some last minute preparation. I have a bit of a strange question that I'd not thought of before.....I know the minimum amount of hours is 16 per month and If successful I will be wanting to put in a lot more hours than that, but I was wondering if someone could tell me how your hours are determined? Such as, will you need to inform them of available hours on aweekly basis etc? Many Thanks

Hi All, Theresa May said in her speech yesterday that Cambridgeshire and Surrey Police are recruiting. Given that she also said targets had been abolished nearly 2 years ago, is she actually correct this time? Thanks in advance.

So I was thinking to myself, I heard of some words that refer to the Police... But why? (Please DO NOT post any swear words, we know what they are and why they are said) Some names the Police are called, whats the meaning behind them? The Law (Obvious) The Bill (Presumed based on TV Show?) Rozzers Pigs (really, whats the reason?) Cop (Coppers, why though?) Do some counties have specific terms?

Hi everyone! I've just attested and I'm wondering if there is any tips you can give for making me less nervous for when I go on duty for the first time later this week! The last 7 months seem to have flown by and now I feel like I can't remember a thing from training! Especially given that all the crime, traffic lessons were about 4/5 months ago! I'm very grateful for the support this forum has given me from day one back when I applied in November 2010, it's really appreciated! Josh

I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet! Link - https://www.facebook...151209320760387 I enjoyed the clip and felt it said something positive about police-community relations in certain parts of the country. However, there will be folk who think it is unprofessional behaviour (think Riot-Shield-Sled-Gate). What exactly is the difference between the two events in the eyes of the public?

Hi folks, Been in TVP Specials now 4 months and loved 90% of it. The other 10% revolves around politics and those jobs where you end up standing around alot. Anyway, I do quite alot of hours per month and when shifts are 'Q', I normally try and do some traffic work. I am a very tolerant person and when I stop cars for no ligts or no seatbelt I normally give them words of advice and let them on their way as it doesn't seem to me to be crime of the century. (waiting to be flamed for that :-) ) So my question is, should I lower my tolerance and deal more aggressively with these types of offences ? Having had no training on traffic, I am keen to understand where the line…

I completely support the Met Police and CPS in the prosecution and conviction of Gary Dobson and David Norris for the murder of Stephen Lawrence, this was like every murder an appalling crime committed by a small group of racist and I very much feel for the friends and family of Stephen Lawrence who have fought for justice for there son over the last 20 years. Over the last 24 hrs hours since the conviction of Dodson and Norris, certain politicians and commentators have repeatedly played the race card and accused the police of being racist and institutionally racist in dealing with the black community. Yes there are racists in the police and this is the same in every wa…
