General Policing Discussions

Was having a chat with a few colleagues the other day, and we got onto the topic of how many hours they put in a week/month, and it got me thinking.. How many hours/shifts do you do a week/month and how pro active are you in making arrests? Are there any of you out there who are mad enough to do it 3/4 times a week? I average about 4 shifts a month, would like to do more, just dont have the time!

Well after being part of my 1st interview the other day, with a very unhelpful "customer" who didn't say very much thanks to the advice from his solicitor, it got me thinking what must the mindset of these people be?! How could you go home knowing you've just got someone off of something that everyone knows they have done?! It's just beyond me how they can go home and not question their job! Getting older is making me very synical!!!

Spotted this video on Youtube, but its not the video I am appalled by its the comments. Now I'm no law expert but surely Youtube have a responsability for this? Cant see a "report abuse" for comments, only on video!

Is there an easy way to remember the thinking/braking/stopping distances? Thanks

OK..day off and musing about my current career and future prospects. I have worked in a customer/public facing environment for a couple of decades. I think i have good instincts and i know people. I have often thought that i chose the wrong career but that was a long time ago and i guess im older and hopefully wiser now. Hi all! I am new to the forum and have my 1st assessment tomorrow so have been doing some last minute preparation. I have a bit of a strange question that I'd not thought of before.....I know the minimum amount of hours is 16 per month and If successful I will be wanting to put in a lot more hours than that, but I was wondering if someone could tell me how your hours are determined? Such as, will you need to inform them of available hours on aweekly basis etc? Many Thanks

So I was thinking to myself, I heard of some words that refer to the Police... But why? (Please DO NOT post any swear words, we know what they are and why they are said) Some names the Police are called, whats the meaning behind them? The Law (Obvious) The Bill (Presumed based on TV Show?) Rozzers Pigs (really, whats the reason?) Cop (Coppers, why though?) Do some counties have specific terms?

Hi everyone! I've just attested and I'm wondering if there is any tips you can give for making me less nervous for when I go on duty for the first time later this week! The last 7 months seem to have flown by and now I feel like I can't remember a thing from training! Especially given that all the crime, traffic lessons were about 4/5 months ago! I'm very grateful for the support this forum has given me from day one back when I applied in November 2010, it's really appreciated! Josh

However, there will be folk who think it is unprofessional behaviour (think Riot-Shield-Sled-Gate). What exactly is the difference between the two events in the eyes of the public?

Hi folks, Been in TVP Specials now 4 months and loved 90% of it. The other 10% revolves around politics and those jobs where you end up standing around alot. Anyway, I do quite alot of hours per month and when shifts are 'Q', I normally try and do some traffic work. I am a very tolerant person and when I stop cars for no ligts or no seatbelt I normally give them words of advice and let them on their way as it doesn't seem to me to be crime of the century. (waiting to be flamed for that :-) ) So my question is, should I lower my tolerance and deal more aggressively with these types of offences ? Having had no training on traffic, I am keen to understand where the line…
