Has anyone else noticed how we are recruiting more and more Specials and no more regulars? Anyone else noticed Specials playing security guards for the Olympics? Does anyone realise where this is going? Over enthusiastic Specials being half promised the chance for selection to get on an assessment weekend with the chance to sit the exams that may mean you'll become a Police Officer? It worries me. We are being exploited and we're lapping it up. Edit* spelling was terrible!

Hello I am a Police Cadet with the Metropolitan Police. I recently went on a trip with my unit to look around at the Police Station ........well the custody area anyway. Despite the fact that it was as drab and gromey as hell! (I suppose custody suites aren't meant to be nice lol) but anyway........... I couldn't help but notice a whole bunch of signs posted around the surrounding area saying "Response Level:Heightened"......... what does this mean? and in addition to such..............even though I am unsure what this means....... surely if a response level was heightened the area wouldn't be a ghost town and actually look as such. Hi all, Was just wonderin.... when you get sent to devision after Tulli is it just a case of "You start here monday, sort yourself out"? or do the force provide tempory accomodation untill you get settled? Coz you could get placed anywhere in the force area!!!

I'm a PC in the MET area and know that England and Wales goes by PACE when arresting people and dealing with them from Prisoner Transport to Detention. I recently found out that Scotland operates differently, sso I am interested in finding out where I can get information on what regulations are used as guidelines for arresting, prisoner transport and custody....Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hello, I have just been given my dates for my first training session and to pick up my uniform with Devon and Cornwall police. I have heard that you don’t go out on the street until after you airwaves training which for me is 8 sessions along, in July. Does anybody know of the number of training sessions before you are deployed as a special? Or can you share your personal experience with me to give me an idea of when I might be able to go out onto the streets? Thank You.

I'm sure that most users on this forum have encountered content on the internet from Charlie Veitch, an activist with strong opinions which sometimes seem to be lacking any back up in the form of logic. In general, his blog and youtube channel are, unsurprisingly, anti police. Hi I hope this isn't too frivolous a topic for this forum, but I'd really appreciate your help. I'm researching my first novel. This is a detective story, set in the late 1950s, which I'll be writing later this year. As I read more about real detectives like Nipper Read and Tommy Butler I can see just how unrealistic so many detective stories really are - and that goes for film, TV and novels. So if I may, I'd like to ask some questions: What are the most common mistakes that you see in detective stories? Have you read or seen anything that was realistic? I'd be especially interested in learning more about the 1950s. Any other advice? Cheers Jim

So we've all read stuff about the data protection act (DPA) and to be careful when on district so other people don't hear PNC results coming over the radio. But on watching the latest episode of coppers, the chap who is arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle, although his name isn't mentioned, his lengthy list of previous is clearly read through in the car out loud. Now I'm sure a number of people will know the guy and will now know a lot of stuff about him that perhaps they have no need to know. If a similar thing occurred on district I could see a MOP putting in a complaint alleging breach of DPA etc Thoughts?

Evening all, Got to play a bit of dress-up in stores today. Just wanted to say that I now understand why people wish they could keep the tunics - very smart. I'm curious though, I never realised the custodian was so big? I'm 6'2" so not exactly small, and my head isn't particularly large or small, but the helmet just seemed to dwarf it. I actually felt like it detracted from the outfit. Anyone else relate to this?
