Hi all- A bit of a stranger question but something that is praying on my mind about becoming a special. I am a little over 11st and around 5"11 and it clearly shows in my build. Does it make a difference when on duty how big you as a person? I mean this in the sense of not being given total respect or being taken seriously by people you may be dealing with - I have always come to the conclusion that I would be at a slight disadantage based on my weight. I ask you all to be as honest as possible as I am serious about joining up and would appreciate any comments at all. Thanks!

I'm finishing my Specials training next week so I'm very excited about getting done and out on the street. I know that before I can even think about recruitment into the Regs I will need IPS. I've found out today that I'll also need a PLC or Police Learning Certificate. I have never heard of this before today. The person who mentioned it also mentioned that it costs about £600! Does anyone have any information regarding this?

Hi everyone, I'm soon to be training as Comms Officer (awaiting start date). I'm trying to learn and remember as much as I can before starting. I've learnt all the borough/station codes, I already know my phonetic (alpha, bravo, etc). But I cannot find the type codes (ie. 301 = firearms incident). Can anyone help or PM me on this? I know that a number of units around the country have carried out "Take-over" days where the Special Constabulary of a particular division or borough take on the whole policing responsibility for that area. Examples I'm aware of in the Met are on Enfield and Hackney boroughs as well as the Royal Parks OCU. Usually there are a small number of regular officers on duty to cover specific roles such as Custody and Duty officer, as well as driving if required (although Enfield managed this without much regular assistance due to the number of response drivers they have). Hello all, As I understand it, to carry CS Spray, you have to experience it yourself. To be a Police Constable, do you have carry CS Spray? To carry CS Spray, do you have to take a dose yourself? The reason I'm asking is that I have asthma, and so I'm a bit worried about it. (I'm not applying for a couple of years yet, though.) For those with asthma, what's the protocol? Regards. Jackisback
