General Policing Discussions

I know that a number of units around the country have carried out "Take-over" days where the Special Constabulary of a particular division or borough take on the whole policing responsibility for that area. Examples I'm aware of in the Met are on Enfield and Hackney boroughs as well as the Royal Parks OCU. Usually there are a small number of regular officers on duty to cover specific roles such as Custody and Duty officer, as well as driving if required (although Enfield managed this without much regular assistance due to the number of response drivers they have). Hello all, As I understand it, to carry CS Spray, you have to experience it yourself. To be a Police Constable, do you have carry CS Spray? To carry CS Spray, do you have to take a dose yourself? The reason I'm asking is that I have asthma, and so I'm a bit worried about it. (I'm not applying for a couple of years yet, though.) For those with asthma, what's the protocol? Regards. Jackisback

In December I was a sitting juror on a Murder trial at the Old Bailey. My expectation was that I wouldn't be selected due to my Specialing. After fully declaring it, I was still accepted on the first trial I was called up for. Very interesting! A friend of mine has been called up and he has been rejected numerous times. It's a shame really as it's now allowed in law. To be rejected from so many trials smacks of mumblings in the chambers rather than being rejected for any serious reasoning. It's costing my friends employer and the tax payer money for no good reason... Would love to know the reasons behind each of the rejections... Has anyone else been constantly rejected…

Would it be possible to be a PCSO and a Special in the Met for example, I know the met sponsors some Police Staff to do one day a fortnight as a special, could it be done while a serving PCSO?

Looking at all the doom and gloom regarding regular recruitment, the lack of clarity over the issue in the Winsor report and current freezes on applicants into most forces a question has been brought to mind. I was just philosophising to myself and I began to wonder if the police, or rather police officers, are a seperate cultural group. I looked up the defintions of an ethnic minority. 1 - Definatley the case.. As someone who is due to start training in march I was wondering what level of first aid training specials receive is it really basic ie just CPR and stopping bleeding? Or does it go into a bit more depth? (and yes the title of the thread should of been first AID training but iam using an iPad and the predictive text got excited)
