In December I was a sitting juror on a Murder trial at the Old Bailey. My expectation was that I wouldn't be selected due to my Specialing. After fully declaring it, I was still accepted on the first trial I was called up for. Very interesting! A friend of mine has been called up and he has been rejected numerous times. It's a shame really as it's now allowed in law. To be rejected from so many trials smacks of mumblings in the chambers rather than being rejected for any serious reasoning. It's costing my friends employer and the tax payer money for no good reason... Would love to know the reasons behind each of the rejections... Has anyone else been constantly rejected…

Would it be possible to be a PCSO and a Special in the Met for example, I know the met sponsors some Police Staff to do one day a fortnight as a special, could it be done while a serving PCSO?

Do you think current recruitment policy will have a detrimental impact on the long term quality of Police Officers? I was just philosophising to myself and I began to wonder if the police, or rather police officers, are a seperate cultural group. I looked up the defintions of an ethnic minority. 1 - Definatley the case.. As someone who is due to start training in march I was wondering what level of first aid training specials receive is it really basic ie just CPR and stopping bleeding? Or does it go into a bit more depth? (and yes the title of the thread should of been first AID training but iam using an iPad and the predictive text got excited)

Just been catching up on TV on BBC IPlayer and came across 'Death Unexplained'. Its a very interesting look at the work of HM Coroner and an experience we as cops (unless in the system) rarely get to see. I would recommend watching it.

Hi This being my first post it may be in the wrong place or already have been asked 100 times. I am currently in the process of joining the specials (up to vetting) policing had been my dream all my life, all 22 years of it anyway, and I would love to do it full time. But unfortunately as everyone knows the police aren't requesting regulars right now and don't think they will be doing for quite a while. So joining the specials seems like a great way to get on board and take it from there. I should note that I'm writing this post on the presumption, without sounding presumptuous , of me getting through the process. I work freelance in a self employed capacity. Most of my jobs are very short notice and I'm normally only on them for a day or two. Is there any specific time of notice where you can ask to be on shift or cancel a shift? Also, can you talk to your superiors about putting you on some "on-call" list? The upside to my job and it's relation to the police, is that I can be available on short notice not just unavailable.
