Good Morning. I read an article about Specials policing at West Ham united FC, I think they were from Newham? Forgive me if this a basic question, are you guys part of OSU/TSG? I became a Special as a saw an advert for the OSU, i got sent on borough instead. Im interested in Public Order for some reason and hopefully in the future I will join the OSU/TSG. After a discussion with other members of the forum in the chat room, should educational absences provided it is in the last 2 years be checked when joining the specials? For me especially if it is post 16 attendance, where you agree to attend to your timetable and you are free to leave at any time, that it should be checked the same as your attendance at work would be checked. Over to you. Should all education attendance be checked? Only post 16 (post compulsory) education? or just workplace?

Hi all, just a quick question, how do officers keep up their fitness levels as im not sure how this works, do you have to do it in your own time 'off duty' and do you have to join civvy gyms? thought i would ask as my current job allows me to train during my lunch period along with other colleagues just like the armed forces or fire service,

Having done a few years now and having kept up to date with most things in the job does anyone have any experience with online learning for police (Not Ncalt), such as Blackstones or similar to it? Is it any good or better to learn / pick up things rather than reading from a book? Just curious as I thought I would give online a try rather than just buying books.

Recently a friend was involved in a nasty RTC where another driver hit him. Only because I was in the car as a second witness he was able to prove that it wasn't his fault. So it got me thinking "what if I wasn't there?" so I then thought about the dash cams in our traffic cars and I did a bit of googling. I spend a good half of my time chasing Special Constables who fall below the 16 hours per month or dont keep up with Personal Safety Training. Some we only see once every few months, they dont assist with any duty requests, try as hard as possible not to communicate or keep in touch. If it gets to this stage why do people want to hang on to their warrant cards? If they fall below the required hours for 3 months in a row, unless they are ill or have an agreed leave of absence they should be forced to resign. Okay I know SNT is a safer neighbourhoods team but what exactly does SNT do? And what kind of duties and tasks do they carry out? The typical image I have of SNT are PCs , SCs and PCSOs on a beat during the day on the local high street. Is this it? Do they work nights etc....Or is that the remit of response. What are the differences between SNT and Response? I'm confused as to start off on SNT or Respoñse when I hopefully get in. I hear SNT is good for new specials. I know this has been covered before however today while standing in my front yard having just returned from a funeral and talking to my next door neighbour a scrote and his girlfriend walk past the of the street, look at me and he shouts "are you a copper?" I reply no, they both laugh and he shouts "no, really? Are you?" I reply no again and my next door neighbour shouts "if he was a copper I would have been locked up by now!" both individuals then walk off. Morning all, Whilst driving home yesterday I saw a broken down car on the A120. The car had its hazards on but also had flashing amber dash lights on back and front. I do have to say i could see the car from quite some distance as a result of the dash lights. I just wondered what the legislation is regarding fitting amber emergency lights to a normal car (not highways, police, fire etc). obviously I know you cant fit blue lights and drive around with blue lights and sirens etc.

With the wealth of statistics available from various IT systems for duty planning, booking on\off, expenses, returns etc etc.... do you think using these statistics as a means of motivation of SCs is good\bad. Examples? Discuss. To get the ball rolling, an example would be producing a report of officers with their monthly hours to-date for the current year. This 'could be' circulated to all officers. Easy to see underperforming officers, good for the performant officers to rank their contribution and potentially embarrassing to those who are underperformers (<16 hours).
