Say I was to blog about Specials but I didn't say anything about the force I am with (no one would know), named people or anything that could trace me / colleagues or customers - It would be completly "General" as in - .. The recruitment process was like this, and I felt anxious etc etc.. I'd just be blogging about feelings and interactions rather than specifics. Worth doing or should it be ignored completly. I've been in two minds about it as I understand any mention of details is a big no, no. But is general experience a problem?

Hi Guys, Bit of a random topic but wanted to see what people thought.. I've just come across this photo trying to find out about the uniform in Suffolk http://www.suffolk.police.uk/newsevents/newsstories/2012/march/specialtransatlanticeffort.aspx. I was under the impression that the police were very strict with tattoos and that they should not be on show? Is this becoming something that is more relaxed?

I hope there is someone here who can help me with a query. Im a serving special for 2 years and am about to go regular in September. I recently found out that my employer HBOS is part of the ESP programme and that I should recieve 70 hours extra AL a year to aid duties. Im leaving in the next month so does anyone know/think it would be possible to see my HR department and get them to honour this? Thanks

Hi everyone, I’m a special in training for the GMP and just after a little advice on part of my officer safety training (more specifically, using the cuffs). Does the ‘prone cuff strong side’ hand-cuffing technique leave the hands back to back or stacked? Also, does anyone know of any useful websites where I can find videos on the different cuffing techniques? Any advice or help anyone could give would be really appreciated! Pete

A few weeks ago I was in a car being driven by a friend, he had recently rented the car from Avis Rent a Car through his work. My friend picked me up and we had planned to go for lunch together to a local pub, whilst on route we noticed that suddenly we had a marked police car behind us which was then joined by a second and third vehicle, at first we though nothing of this until the lights and sirens came on and the officers appeared armed. Looking to find out how different forces operate their special constabulary. I was thinking about this last night as a friend is a special in wales (I'm in haggis land) and he was talking about things like "Special Sargeants" - something we don't have in my force. So my question is basically "whats the good things about the way your force operates their special constabulary that you think other forces should do". E.g. I think having a special sgt is very useful their responsibilities are x y z. Or we have specials assigned to specialized depts etc. We're trying to improve our force at the moment so ideas / lessons learnt would be good. And I think it's good to find …

I gained a caution for shoplifting 8 years ago, when i was a juvenille at 14yrs old. As we all do we make mistakes especially as children, i just happened to be with the wrong people at the wrong time. Never again trust me. i 've been to uni, i have a reasonbly good I have applied to be a PCSO and passed paper sift, and therefore have my day 1 comming up soon. Do i have any hope in getting into the force with this hanging over me? Opinions pls? is anyone in the same situation as me?

Hi there i've just turned 18 and a career in the Police has always interested me. I'm currently waiting on starting a course at college which deals with the recruitment process and basic stuff to help get into the police. What I was wondering is that if I apply for the Specials, would that then help me become a regular? I'm not really sure if I could do this and still go to college 3 days per week? Thanks.

I have just been warned for a mutual aid deployment to the Met from GMP for the Olympics. Sadly I have the 20th to the 27th July on days on a beat duty. So I'll miss all the Olympic events. However, at least my deployment will be done with straight away and I can watch the rest at home. Anyone else have MA duties yet? .

In the last few years I have come across a number of cases of females reporting false crimes as a form of attention seeking. Last week as an example is a case in Rochdale GMP, where a young woman claimed to be sexually assaulted on the 1st of July by two men. I wondered how wide spread this problem is and why it happens, the amount of police time that must be wasted by such cases and investigations, plus the possibility of innocent MoP's being arrested on suspicion of committing a crime and the impact of an possible court cases on innocent victims of false accusations by attention seekers. I was at my wee local Tesco this morning. As I was leaving the shop two police officers came out the back shop with a young lad (looked about15). They were just ahead of me and when outside the shop the lad did a runner. I only realised at this point that the wasn't handcuffed. I got in my car and as I drove out the car park the two police caught the lad and had him on the floor. I was wondering when making an arrest do you think this person is compliant and won't do a runner so I won't handcuff or would you cuff everyone that is being arrested. Also has a similar incident happened to you with a runner? Any thoughts and stories please.
