General Policing Discussions

I am being interviewed on Tuesday for the above post and being assessed against a regular Chief Superintendents performance framework. I will also be given an unknown topic on arrival and given 30 minutes to prepare. Any suggestions on key policies or themes. I am up to speed on: - Policing Plan - Value for Money - Professional Standards - Windsor 1 & 2 - Police Cimmissioners - NIM - HMIC Inspections - National Decision Makind model - National Specials Strategy & Force Heat Map What else folks?

So, this is me over the last 6 years: 2006 - Kent Police PC (Failed A/C) 2007 - Kent Police PCSO (Got job - served 4 years) 2008 - Kent Police PC (Passed all, but application cancelled) 2011 - Kent Police Special (Failed A/C) 2011 - BTP PC (Failed A/C) 2012 - Kent Police Special (Failed vetting... no idea why and they won't tell me - now feel like a criminal) 2012 - BTP PCSO (Applied in February, but not heard anything and not hopeful) I cannot believe I've filled out "that form" 7 times, but I did it because I've only ever wanted to be in the police... Came across this interesting video which involves the DCC of my home force. I've always been quite into the latest technology but have to admit that I have in the past seriously doubted how many benefits there are given how much time has been put into social media in Tayside. I agree that there is definatly a place for this, whether every community officer needs a smartphone with a bespoke tracking app I'm not sure yet. I'm guessing that Tayside is probably one of leading forces on this but given that he is the ACPO lead in this area wouldn't be surprised to see projects similar to the community policing app mentioned copied elsewhere. Strange, I know, but: What was your best foot chase to date? Mine has to be: called to a Burglary in progress, we arrive and a group of males leave the premiss. Detained by one officer, alerted to another who is making off. Alot skinner, fitter and with a massive headstart. I managed to catch him, cuff him and caution him. All of which I thought I was going to struggle with!

I know this has been discussed before in many ways, but in the current climate, with our police being under close scrutiny and the slightest infractions appearing in the media, do you think that a police officers appearance (smartness etc.) is important? Too often these days I see officers who are very poorly turned out, which is not helped by the 'uniform' which I think looks very untidy.

I am saddened to hear that 5 Regiment Royal Military Police is to be drawn down from the order of battle. 5 Regt Royal Military Police comprises a variety of smaller units: Regimental Headquarters is in Gutersloh Germany. The Regular Provost Companies are 101 Pro Coy, at JHQ Rheindahlen 114 Provost Company in Gutersloh The Territorial Army Royal Military Police Provost Companies 243 Pro Coy (V), based in Livingston, West Lothian, with a detachment in Lisburn, NI, 252 Pro Coy (V), based in Stockton-on-Tees with a detachment in Newcastle. Something occurred to me the other day which I haven't been able to check in the station myself yet so I was going to put this in the Scenario section but then came to my own conclusion that you would deal with as normal and let the courts decide if disputed. But to discuss if there is an offence. If someone is in traffic, foot on break, hand break off, 'engine running' and they are using there phone without hands free then it is an offence. But what if when questioning that individual they respond with "My engine wasn't running? This Audi has stop start technology and the Engine is off" Then what? I would still deal with as normal or just summons but would it get throw…

I was wondering what occupations are restricted to us as Specials. I am looking for a new job and have seen one for a Trainee Dog Handler but not for the Police. I guess the question is, if I get the job will it impede me being a special?

In the course of my job I often have the opportunity to travel throughout the UK, and meet lots of different police and MoP's. Something I have noticed is that there are different styles of policing in different areas of the UK. In larger urban areas such as cities I noticed that the police are often more ready to take a hard line with alleged offenders and arrest. Officers in rural areas tend to be more relaxed community style of policing. I welcome any thoughts in how different regions of the UK police there communities and deal with alleged offenders.

How does this work ? out on patrol a group shout obscenities at you, so you go over to tell them to wind there necks in or there night will be ending sooner than they had planned . Heard a rumour that despite the Met taking over the functions of Wandsworth Parks Police that the council have retained a small number of officers from the old parks police and have now rebranded these officers to a new organisation called Wandsworth Events Police which is like the old parks police, council owned and operated. Interesting name change to EVENTS POLICE kind odd sounding. Anyone else heard this has happened.

Just a general observation I've made, and I'm interested to find out if it happens all over the country or just the area I cover. We can always identify the sort of people who are likely to start causing trouble because the second they see the police their hands immediately go down their trousers, they start fiddling with themselves, they start spitting a lot more frequently, start standing in a funny stance where they seem to push their hips outwards slightly, and they seem to feel the need to try and stare you out.
