I have a new pet hate! Ex Specials that you have trained, taken out or crewed with and get on with, become FB friends...but as soon as they become Regs thay don't give you the time of day. I have seen a few of these officers over the last 8 years and it is as if we are not good enough for them. I do know regs that go out of their way to tell you they were ex-specials and they are proud to have been in the SC, but I have come across a lot that can't look me in the eye.

I was thinking earlier (slightly dangerous) and we were talking about Sergeant exams. Now, is there anything wrong with a Special doing the Sergeants' part 1 & 2? Just curious really..

My name is Dave and I'm new to this forum. I'm a middlingly(ish) successful writer for theatre, TV and film (in that I've had the odd good review - though I've also had some stinkers - and can just about squeeze a living out if it). After 2 months of training, I am now expecting to be working my first shift this week! I don't have a clue what to expect and I am slightly nervous! I'm sure many of you have seen the AR Drone 2 which is basically a quadrotator with an inbuilt camera. I was thinking about it's application to policing and how as prices come down it will become more possible to use this type of device for policing (and against police interests). I think it would be really useful for every police car to have one and when the need arises it is deployed under the control of a pilot sitting at comms (saving on training cost for officers) relaying live information to help search for misper / burglar / crowd control etc.. What do you think?

Hi All, I was a special for 11 years & had to give it up as i took on a different post in my full time job & could no longer commit to my 16hrs a week. This was 6 years ago & i am now thinking about re applying to the same force. Do i just need to apply & fill out an aplication form like everybody else or do i nee dto do anything different? Came across this interesting video which involves the DCC of my home force. I've always been quite into the latest technology but have to admit that I have in the past seriously doubted how many benefits there are given how much time has been put into social media in Tayside. I agree that there is definatly a place for this, whether every community officer needs a smartphone with a bespoke tracking app I'm not sure yet. I'm guessing that Tayside is probably one of leading forces on this but given that he is the ACPO lead in this area wouldn't be surprised to see projects similar to the community policing app mentioned copied elsewhere.
