I'm currently a Level 1 at MerPol and I'm only able to work with Neighbourhood until I'm Level 2 then I can go out on attachments to Patrol, etc or go out with another Level 2. Once I get Level 3 I'm able to go out on Independent Patrol. It's most likely going to be the same for Level 3, but is it any different in other forces? When I first attested my Neighbourhood Sgt tried to get me on Patrol as thought it would be the best way for me to learn the job but it got blocked via the SC CoC. I'm sorry if this has been brought up previously. I couldn't find anything when I did a search using Tapatalk.

Hi people, Just want to gather all your thoughts and views on this terrorist cell and what dangers they post to us here in the UK. We've all read in the news about the awful murder of those two American (god rest their souls) chaps, but i was just wondering if you think that they will continue their terrorism over here, or is it another group that pop up and then fizzle out? Is it a smoke screen for al-qaeda as they have been quiet in a while?

Hello folks I hesitate somewhat before posting this as it's a little painful/embarrassing so bear with me, and please excuse the "me me me" nature of it. I'd like to get people's thoughts on how suitable the police is for someone who is, frankly, chronically disorganised, hugely lazy and needs to be micromanaged or closely supervised - relative to other careers. A little background - I'm in my early 30s and after falling to pieces during my degree 10 years ago I've coasted along in a few professional jobs. I can talk a good talk but frankly can't walk the walk and am utterly hopeless in a situation where I'm given a medium- or long-term project to get on with unsupervi…

Was on duty today, neighborhood policing instead of my normal response. For some reason I feel that I just didn't perform well enough on duty today - didn't help that the special I was crewed with wasn't any help at all ha! I now feel annoyed and disappointed, and I'm now questioning myself if I still want to do this job full time - something I have wanted for a long time. Nothing specifically happened, I just feel I could have done better somehow. Ohh well, tomorrow is a new day! Do you ever feel this way about specialing?

So somewhat of a taboo subject but..... I arrested two IC3 males in seperate incidents on Friday night. I was courteous and professional with both of them and had absolutely no option but to arrest. I used to live In a country where 70% of the population are black and although I am white myself I am about as far from a racist as it is possible to be. Yet both accused me of making racially motivated arrests and said I would not arrest a white person in the same circumstances. Complete nonsense, but have other people experienced this? I personally found begin called a racist deeply offensive.

As of now no longer a public servant, however a collector of memorabilia for 25 years I just wonder if anyone can tell me if pr-24xts was issued by the met. I own one and the issue instructions have the Cromwell badge on the front cover. The baypn is boxed. Was this met trial issued. Any help much appreciated.

Just wondering if anyone out there is doing it. Also are they integrating specials into the event or are the SC's just going to be back filling for the estimated 10,000 cops that are going to descend on Newport?

I've seen many posts from people akin to Radman's statement above and I'm not sure I agree with it in it's entirety. Firstly, don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of the government cuts and I don't think Specials should replace regs on a permanent basis. Forces should have enough regular staff to cope with demand during the vast majority of times (you can never account for all eventualities). Many forces simply don't have enough money to do this at present; the Bedfordshire HMIC thread is a good example of this. So the question arises of whether Specials should fill the gap. This is somewhat of a philosophical debate because Specials already are filling the gap to some ext…

Right, I think I am going to rant a bit so apologies in advance. I am frustrated frequently by the attitude of the general public nowadays when it comes to dealing with problems and challenging inappropriate behaviour. The media has convinced people that you cannot talk to someone in a hoody or ask your neighbour to turn his music down without being stabbed or murdered for your trouble. The police often fuel this by giving overly protective warnings to people out of fear of being seen to sanction or suggest a course of action which might mean in one in a million situations, lead to someone being hurt. Not only do they impress this approach on the public - but also o…

Yesterday following a very difficult domestic, I was working with the victim trying to arrange emergency shelter for her and her child as no family/friends close by or access to money. I confidently handed over the back page of our dash form that has multitudes of numbers on offering help. I have never before called or been witness to anyone calling these numbers and what followed was frankly embarrassing as she was passed from organisation to organisation, number to number. Often having to call back to establish correct information as the original information was wrong. This ultimately ended with the last person on the list saying they couldn't help and she would hav…
