General Policing Discussions

Hi everyone, I'm just wondering how traffic policing works between force areas. For example, Say there is a pursuit in one force area and it goes into another force area, would the pursuing unit from the original force area continue or would they hand over to the force area that the pursuit is currently in? So if a pursuit went from Lancashire into Greater Manchester, would Lancs continue or would they back off and hand over to GMP? It's probably a really daft question to some of you, but I'm just curious! Cheers, KT.

This isn't very interesting at all but any advice / knowledge would help, I'm currently doing my specials training as well as doing a politics course. I know specials are advised against political canvassing. I've also read that specials are told to avoid political activity could anyone clear up what could be defined as "political activity". When do you think the cuts to policing will end? They have got to stop sometime and can't go on forever.

I'm in the process of applying to be a special with the Met, and one thing i'm curious about is - what do you find most challenging about the job? What personal qualities did you find you had to work on most? Is there any really intimidating aspects of the job that take a lot of getting used to? One of my big weaknesses (and i'm sure it will affect my success) is that i'm part of the Satnav generation. I usually have very little awareness of precisely where i am and what road i am on, and how to get from A to B without my precious Binatone! Any ideas on how much this is likely to affect me or any techniques for improving my Geography/awareness?

Watching the Oscar Pistorius trial with the judge giving her reasoning for each charge listed and commentators from South Africa giving the pros and cons for the no jury system there, does anyone think the jury system is possibly outdated now or should be reserved for some offences and some for Judges only to preside? One of the SA legal commentators said the the Judge only system helps by getting right down the the facts of law where under a jury system they could possibly be swayed by what may be an irrelevant fact in the case but see it as very relevant?

SO Would fitting 2 REAR blue lights to the personal vehicle belonging to a serving POLICE OFFICER/SPECIAL CONSTABLE be legal/allowed? Two related questions regarding obtaining a DP's particulars during e.g. S.1 PACE searches: 1. Obtaining particulars from ID Cards For searches that legitimately involve rummaging through the DP's wallet (e.g. looking for drugs or stolen cards) it's likely that the searching officer will come across ID with the DP's particulars on it. How acceptable is it to use this information either on the stop-search form or in subsequent intel? There is of course no legal requirement for the DP to provide you with his name and address so it doesn't seem entirely right that this information should be 'accidentally' gleaned during a search for specific other things. Hello all, I have just finished my ILS4C foundation training. Being new to restraint techniques etc, I intially didn't pass my Red Man scenario LVL 3 practical. Upon some further training and a day of scenarios. I passed the scenario yesterday (Sept 1st). I have been given options on whats next. 1) I can go out on duty with an action plan to increase my confidence from PST. 2) Leave the Specials to persue confidence in conflict outside and re-join later. What are people's thoughts and opinions of a National Police Service, Police UK? There are 46 Police forces in the UK (Including BTP), and having separate Police authority's, HR Departments, Press Offices, Control Rooms and management teams seems like a huge overspend/ wrong way of doing things. Having seen them on a no. of occasions now, I wonder if any LE officer would get away with bullying hectoring style used by MPs on the Select Committees. Yes on occasions it's interesting watching very powerful people being questioned but I still think that the way that many of the MPs behave is more like frustrated 1970s cops than anything else - one of those interviewing the former CC of SYP today came up with an utter DM reader piece of rubbish that if the CC hadn't been so busy persecuting motorists or words ghost effect he would have had time to found out about the child abuse in his force area. Following a recent news story about police shooting an armed suspect dead I got to thinking... It it time that the ARV role, which could and does require police officers to take another person's life, be handed to the military. Comparing the two, I don't think anyone joined the police to kill yet unfortunately that's in some military units' job description.

Following the recent Bullshire lampooning of the leather PVC jackets worn by the NCA I wanted to see them for myself, and found a number of images like this one: Leaving aside the obvious naffness of the FBI-style coats, I was pretty surprised to see these NCA staff wearing "Police" caps.
