I am a man in my early 40's! I have never had any issues with the police in my life, until an event that changed my life and my view of the police forever! I once used to believe that the police was here to help us, I have now discovered that besides being incompetent, they do not care if the with their incompetence can ruin or destroy other peoples lives! For many years I used to sell items on eBay, not so much anymore, as I changed career and started working as an airline pilot! Where does the law stand on searching unattended property - e.g. bags, dropped containers, or basically anything which can be opened without being damaged - in order to ascertain or locate the owner? This seems like a pretty common-sense thing which any person might do, since they have no intention to deprive the owner of the property and they aren't pinning the owner down to effect the search, so no offences are committed. Is there a specific power in law to search unattended property for this purpose or is it simply not illegal?

Hi I'm looking for a bit of advice. Person A is out at the pub, when Person B is aggresive towards them. When person A confronts person B (in a non aggresive manor) as to what the problem is. Person B asks Person A for a word in private, naively Person A agrees to such in the hope that matters can be resolved amicably over a conversation. Being physically disabled, Person A is at higher risk of paralysation/death if struck in the neck where a vertabrate and a half is missing. This clips talks about S 44 of TA 2000, but when the guy is arrested, the PO mentions Section 2 of an act - but the name of the act is obliterated by the noise of traffic. Being a policeman seems to make everyone think you know every law ever made! A friend is having a dispute with his neighbour about the property boundary, and the neighbour has been trying to put a fence up on his land. Things have soured between them and developed into heated arguements. What should my friend do with regards to this? Should he report it to the police as the person has tried to come onto his property to dig up his path to put a fence post in. Because they've had an arguement should it be reported to 101, or is this purely a civil matter and he should contact the council? Hi my names matt, and i am looking for some answers. Nearly 3 years ago i was involved in an unprovoked attack, this was in the early hours of March 12th 2010. I was accused of sexual assault on a child family member (I was 15, she was 8). I was arrested, charged and then acquitted by the judge at court. I AM INNOCENT. I was driving along last night and some (drunk) men were walking on the pavement. As I approached them, one of them thought it would be humorous to run into the middle of the road. Fortunately it was a quiet dual carriageway so I brakes hard and moved a little into lane 2. I asked then what the hell they thought they were doing but they were too drunk to care. I've just been watching "The Railway: Keeping Britain Moving" on BBC iPlayer and there was a section with a lost property office. The office is run by a private company for profit and when items are handed in they charge a fee for the item to be returned. This sits a little uneasily with me: understandably there is a cost involved in storing items or chasing up people trying to return the item to them and it would seem reasonable to reclaim the costs back. A few questions on a few points that I came across whilst reading the IDLPD notes on Stop and Search PACE: a) non-uniformed constables cannot stop a vehicle.... why is this? b) It says that non uniformed constables can stop a vehicle when it is already stopped (but need a uniformed constable to stop) what is the definition of "stopped"?
