Hello, I have been here a while now just lurking as I find it all very fascinating. I am glad you are out there. I have had some pretty good but unfortunately common experiences with the police and I may write one of those up as a reminder you really can touch people and even the seemingly simple things do matter. All, A couple of months back, I worked a scene guard in relation to a robbery. The scene was a public footpath, only about 4 feet wide, but with quite steep grass banks on either side. There is no street lighting, although some light spills over from a nearby block of flats. Whilst working said scene guard, a rather drunk gentleman wandered over from the nearby public house, and attempted to beeline straight through my scene. Another officer that I was with managed (eventually!) to persuade him to go around, up the steep bank. My question is, what if he'd been determined to wander straight through? Confused.com I know tyre tread needs to be 1.6, but when I look at the regulations it says 1mm. I think the 1mm applies to HGV’s etc but I can’t see anything relating to the 1.6. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1986/1078/regulation/27/made any ideas

I work as a Fleet Compliance Manager for a transport company and I have been asked a question I am unable to answer. One of our drivers has passed a mobile speed camera and has flashed his headlights to warn another driver travelling in the opposite direction of the camera. Our driver has been stopped by the police and issued with a ticket for "misuse of headlight", I cannot see this offence anywhere and would very grateful of your advice and if possible, where the offence is written and what the penalty is for this offence.

Hi my daughter was due to give a video statement on an attack on her. However when we got there the equipment was broken so we had to re-book, which was going to be this week but now the day before we get told that it will now be a written statement instead of a video one. The video equipment is working and as you can imagine i am very upset as I feel my 12 year daughter deserves to make the video statement and not the written. Also is there anything legally I can do to get the statement we deserve many thanks in advance for replys

Part one: The other day I came up to a set of temporary traffic lights and they where red. I stopped and waited for between 4-5 Minutes, rolled my car backwards and forwards and flashed my lights at the sensor and came to the conclusion the traffic light was faulty as during the 4-5 minutes I was there no traffic came through the other way. So I was looking with an SS from Essex at powers of entry recently, and came across a power under S4 of the Crossbow Act, for which I can find no evidence of it being repealed. This leads me to question what other quirky powers of entry might still exist in UK legislation today... Can anyone provide any examples?

All, In my ongoing quest to actually learn my powers properly; I pose the following question?: If I stop someone using S163 of the RTA, and the subsequently pull off again having stopped, is an offence technically committed? I see no reason in the legislation why I could not continually stop/start/stop at the request of the officer and not step outside the legal requirement... Ta, Adam

So another thread prompted me to wonder about this - I asked a Sgt quite early in my policing career and I don't recall every getting a firm answer, although I'm sure I know what it's meant to be. S27 talks about "Alcohol related crime or disorder." Does this relate to crime caused by alcohol, with disorder separately, or any crime OR disorder caused by alcohol? To put it in brackets: Alcohol related (crime or disorder) or (Alcohol related crime) or disorder. I think option 1.

Hi guys, I have some questions that have been on my mind for a while, they are related to something that has happened concerning a family member. I understand that the police have no choice but to make an arrest when they are aware that a law has been broken. I also understand that CPS decide on charges and not the police. Hi. Everyday I cycle to work and ignore a cycling prohibited sign in the pedestrian only area of my local high street. Once a PCSO stopped me and had a word then told me to walk the bike, which I did. My time keeping is so bad that I would prefer to cycle safely through the pedestrian area of my local high street and risk getting stopped and issued a penalty or taken to court, then to walk my bike through the high street and be late for work on most days. The other day we were discussing plans for an individual's party and an interesting discussion about the use of fake ID came up (for the purpose of getting into a bar/pub/club whilst underage) I just wanted to know what offences would be committed by say a 17 year old using a fake form of ID of some sort to get into a venue or premises underage? and also what would be the punishment for such offences? Would it be legal to use something like Google glasses or this (http://memoto.com/) in public? can i go around recording video without peoples permissions as technically its kind of spying as people dont know wether its running or not?

The owner of a [high value] piece of personal property lends it to someone as a favour. The borrower finishes using it and says thank you to the owner and asks the owner to collect the property. Several months later and several reminders later the owner has not made any arrangements to collect the property. The borrower cannot return the property because he does not know where the owner lives. The borrower asks the owner to collect the property by a certain date as the borrower needs the storage space back. Has the owner relinquished his rights? If the borrower disposes of the property has he committed an offence?
