Today I spent a morning with a warrants officer as back up for some arrests he had to make. As a result we were in and out of court several times and while there I saw several sentences given out which are to put it bluntly absolutely disgusting given that the offenders are all well-known and they had all been arrested as they had not attended court on several occasions or paid anything towards their fines, which as a result had gone up and up. If you are carrying out a house search at an address of a male suspected of burglary, the male is present during the search and also present is his partner. You have suspicion that his partner is conceiling stolen items from the burglary, what offence(s) could you arrest her for?

Simply put ambush defences (i.e. coming up with a plausable story late in the day - at court - without giving the police time to investigate the alibi) are counteracted by the "new" bit of the caution: It may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned something which you later rely on in court... However, is it possible for a suspect to filibuster an interview - beyond the allowed detention time limit- so that the police do not have the oppertunity to question them about it?

Hi all, I am currently waiting for my A/C results, due this week! Unfortunately I got home tonight to find a speeding fine on my doorstep! Since I am the only driver of the car it was obviously me driving! It's the only time I have ever had anything like this so my question is, will this affect my application if I have passed my a/c? I was wondering what the law says in regard to non blue badge holders parking in disabled bays. I have done a search but most of the results were from Feb 2005 and wondered if legislation had changed since then? I found this article for Scotland through google clicky and wondered if there was anything for England in the pipeline.

Is it illegal to sell/buy/own pepper spray (or equivilent?). If so what is the law? They just said on tele that it is an offensive weapon, but if it is bought on the internet and delivered to your house, then surely possession of it only becomes illegal if you take it out with you into a public place..

I want to say thank you to two traffic officers from the Met. If you read this – you’ll know who you are! 10 days ago I fell over in the shower; I landed on my elbow and was in agony. My wife ran upstairs and was banging on the door to see if I was OK. Stopped a car the other week, driver had bought the car 3 months earlier and it was still registered to the previous owner. Everything else seemed fairly in order, but did wonder if this was some attempt maybe to avoid speeding tickets etc... Hi, I know somebody who's got a business and doesn't pay any tax at all. I called the tax evasion hotline 0800 788887 but I was told that if I don't know the full name of the person and their home address, any other information is worthless. I know the first name of the person and the address of the business. Shouldn't that be enough?

There are some scenarios when people end up 'Squatting' or otherwise gain some legal protection or implied tenancy to be in a property when they have been told to leave. The question I have is that if someone has been asked to quit property do they then become a tresspasser for the purposes of the offence of burglary? If they then leave the property, yet help themselves to fixtures and fittings have they committed the offence?

Morning all This is something I've always wondered about, and the answer is probably an obvious one but clarification from those with a little more experience in the service than myself would be good! In the case of an out-of-town shopping complex such as Trafford Centre, Bluewater, Meadowhall or White Rose can traffic laws be enforced on their site roads as these are technically private roads owned by the Landlords yet are used to access the buildings/car parks by the public/delivery vans/busses etc?
