I'm new to the forum, but just wanted to ask a question / get your opinions. I recently (yesterday) recieved a FPN (£60) for not displaying a tax disc (FPN stuck to my window). I applied for a new tax disc on-line and didn't recieve it in the post, I can show I applied for it and the money was taken from my acount etc. however nothing arrived in the post. Unfortunately I was also on holiday last week so didn't have chance to chase up the DVLA etc. and now I've got a FPN. I spoke to the local police station and all they will say is that it's an offence and that's that. Obviously I feel a bit narked about it all being as DVLA encourage you to use their on-line service…

Hi, I live in Scotland and this is the setting for my question. If I am going about my own private life without committing any crime, and a police officer approaches me, I am unsure of my rights and responsibilities: I was sure that the police had no power to 'force' me to give up my name and address. Is this not true? What circumstances would give an officer 'just cause' to ask this, and what is this information used for/where is it stored? I thought the same about what I've been doing or where I've been. Same question. Can I simply keep walking when an officer approaches me, or does ignoring a police officer constitute an offence? I just found out that my ex-husband has been driving my 9 year old daughter and his new stepson around in the back of his van, which has no seats, let alone seatbelts! Folks We all the definition of theft: "A person is guilty of theft if: he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it" So, if a chap decided to steal money (not using force / not through fraudulent activity) from the Bank of England then put the entire amount (plus any interest etc) into his will to leave back to the Bank of England upon his death, would this still be theft? For ease of answering, think of taking cash from the cashiers desk before cashier has chance to put it away. Then legs it. Ta

Not sure if anyone will know this question but it's worth a try. Someone had their full driving licence revoked for having 6 points in first 2 years. They then reaplied for a provisional and the 6 points were still on there new provisional licence. What happens to those 6 points? When the driver re-takes the test again and gets a full licence back do those 6 points stay on there? Or get wiped off? I have read somewhere online that they stay on there and the driver is not allowed anymore chances, if they get another 3points they loose their licence again? But have also read that they get wiped off!? Any ideas before I ring the DVLA?

This may sound like a mad post – but I’m really baffled into how this can happen. I’ve applied for GMP, as you can see below, but currently work (If I can get it, because the CRB keep messing up my checks and I cannot work without a CRB in the last 6 months) in care. I have had at least 5 other CRB’S all clear over the last 7 years. The thing is, the last CRB checks I’ve applied for, they’ve comeback with my name spelt wrong on them. Would it be illegal to fit brighter lights to the ones that shine down on your number plate? Like some white LED's. In theory Surely its actually showing your number plate better

What's the law on cycling on a dual carriageway? Anyone know? Is it allowed?

If you see the typical 'boy racer' type vehicle with steady (non-flashing) blue LED lights visible, do you use the presence of such coloured lights to pull the vehicle over? I did try to make a poll, but I could not see an option to do it.

I have recenlty joined the army cadets and i have been given a 3.5 - 4 inch blade knife ( not sure exactly ) i was looking for advice. Before i go on camps i usually get on the tube to go to the cadet unit to get on the coach to the camp. I usually leave my zippo lighter and my knife in the bottom of my suitecase if i got searched on the way will i be arrested for the knife its just a normal folding pen knife also is the zippo lighter unlawfull. with human rights there are somethings that i am not sure about. Free Speech: I am not saying that i have ever been or am a racist but: If you say a racist comment to somebody who is of a different background you are using free Speech, but why do you get arrested for it? at college it was brought up last year but reading the "Oi stop or I might be able to grab you"topic has reminded me that i never did find out an answer. also when you swear in public you may get arrested for it but yet again this is free speech according to the humans right act. can anybody clear this up. dave

Hi. My partner and i did a house swap with someone 7 weeks ago. In the last few days the people who lived there before have been coming down to the house and trying to get into the shed to get the lawnmower and things that are in the shed. When they left they said we could keep everything that was left. Do they have any right to come and take these things?

Bit of scenerio really. Walking down a tight road with cars going in opposite directions and neither is going to reverse to allow the other to pass. What powers do you have to get one ofthe them to reverse?
