Hi there, someone I know was driving at extremely high speed on a dual carriageway and was caught by police mobile LIDAR device. The police car caught up and pulled them over and there is a court date that has been for March, the original incident occured middle of 2008. A letter has been written to the police office asking for evidence that will be used to be sent to the driver. Would the police have video evidence on this occasion normally, and how long before the court date are they required to provide the evidence? Would it seem fair to suggest that the difference between a Policeman and a Police Officer is this: A Policeman/ woman works to help protect people and their property and are civil servants - there to serve civilians, on behalf of civilians. A Police Officer works for a corporation (yes, a corporation), to collect fees for that organisation, hence being an "officer" in a police "force". Many years ago a policeman would describe himself as the policeman above and be a popular part of any community, there to help when needed. Morning folks, Few nights back some drunk gentleman having a row with his missus outside my house, walking up the street, decided it'd be a good idea to pull my passenger side wing mirror off, then smash it in the road. Unfortunately, I had my headphones on and was engrossed in an episode of Road Wars My question is, am I likely to get pulled for not having that wing mirror? Hello all, I did use the search function to see if its been asked already! Anyway my question is do you have to caution someone if you arrest someone for a breach of the peace? If I were to guess I'd say you do but my only thought against it is that its not technically an offence... Many thanks, F&V

Has anyone on here ever arrested for s.5 Criminal Law Act 1967 (Wasting police time)? It doesn't seem like a commonly used offence, but one that could easily apply to frivolous and maliscious calls.... Apparently you can't prosecute without the sayso of the DPP; is this the reason it's not commonly used?

Another quick question - why would anyone choose to apply to be a PCSO as opposed to a PC?

Hi If someone was driving without a licence (the licence had been revoked) and someone who knew that the person was driving had contacted the police and told them. They haven't actually seen the person driving but have been told they are. What action would the police take? Would they go around the persons house/work and ask them if they have been driving? Would they just keep a eye out for the car?

Hi folks, Is it law that a motorist should give way to a pedestrian on a Zebra Crossing, or just a recommendation in the Highway Code. After almost being killed by a speeding motorist on one, I'm not sure anymore. Many thanks.

i've seen a "Monster truck" on the roads near me, its parked on a main road. it's not a US style thing but a pickup with stupidly huge wheels. i thought, is it legal? any run over for the average height is going to be a direct headshot for starterss! similar to this. im not "dropping in for advice" just merely intrigued. as its HUGE!

Just wondering if pay differs between departments for officers in the same rank with the same length of service? For example, 2 constables in the same force both with 4 years of service, one in dog handling the other in CID - do they get the same pay? Do you get the same pay even if you don't specialise?

Hi, im in the middle of having 'background checks' to become a special. In the meantime im spending alot of time reading up on the bible (Various Books about the Law). None of these books have much information about Police Powers. (All simplified). If you were to use a Section or an Act. Where do you learn this? And is there an open resource? Such as.. Drunk and Disorderely.. Animal abuse.. PPOs.. If you were to caution/arrest someone for a Specific offence. How do you know which section to use. Since there must be millions of varyingcrimes commited. How do you know which Sections to use? And is there a way i can find it out? (Considering im not even an Officer?) …

As someone is new to the job i am just wondering how much you tell you friends, family etc about what you have gotten up to on your shifts - i am being asked lots of questions by people and dont know how much i can say (if anything)

A friend of mine lives in a small cul de sac. his neighbours opposite own a work van which he frequently parks outside my friends house blocking the view etc. he aslo owns a car which he never parks in his drive but in front of my friends house if the van is not there, or in the middle of a space which could fit at least 2 cars normally. he has also obtained another van which he leaves outside his own house, and has a trailer -which has a different licence plate to the van- on the road behind the van and not attached to it. He has been politely asked on a number of occasions not to park his van in such an awkward place, use his drivway, move the trailer etc but blatantly …
