Question time.... You seize clothing from someone who has been admitted to hospital - the nurse takes the clotes from the person and hands them to you. Who's exhibit is it? Who signs the exhibit label ? Are you seizing ? Or are they producing ? regards

Ok..quick question... Law regarding tinted visors for motorcyclists? Its a pain wearing sunglasses with a helmet on, and you can get ones that have a tinted bit that slips down but you look like an xtra from topgun. I've been trying to google this but to no avail really. Are you allowed to have a tinted visor on your helmet during day light hours? Can't see why not given its probably more dangerous not to, but i'm not too keen on being stopped for something so stupid so trying to find out from a legal perspective. In northern ireland if that helps

what did officers do prior to stop and search powers. Say you suspected someone had stolen items or drugs would you of had to arrest on suspicion of the offence then search once at custody?? Just crossed my mind.

Second of two questions today...(am moving to a new operational rule soon and am doing homework!!) I stop a driver seen using a mobile phone...he denies everything and wont give me his phone. Do I have any power to seize the phone/demand the number or imei no. or do I just contemp. note interview him and report him (or her) anyway..? Many Thanks Jim

Hi all, I have been told that if you have a full car licence and pass your CBT you are not required to display 'L' plates when driving a moped/scooter up to 50cc? Is this correct or would you need to pass a full bike test in order to be able to ditch the L plates? I've searched on google and found conflicting answers, and the official DVLA site didn't seem to have the answer (or not that I could find anyway). Also, what if you wanted to ride a 125cc moped? Also are you allowed to carry passengers, or is that only if you pass a full bike test? Many thanks, G

I'm a 24 year old female primary school teacher. I was walking to the shop when i was approached by a group of lads who were about 16 who asked me to buy alcohol. I didn't know them and felt intimidated and panicked as i was on my own walking in a rough area. I stupidly said yes and bought them 16 cans of fosters with money they gave me. A few seconds later a police officer came and told me he'd seen what happened. He took my name and my address and telephone number and said i'd have to attend an interview. Continuing on the same thread of Police powers and the threshold of reasonable suspicion. How low is the threshold in your opinions? For example would a witness statement be sufficient? I suspect in the UK this would be the case, but second part to my question is, doesn't this just open things up for people making malicious allegations? or is there some checks that have to be made in an operational sense? i.e - do officers have to carry out any necessary checks of information and sources before acting on reasonable suspicion or belief?

After reading through much of this site, I get the distinct feeling that a sizable number of contributors (I assume officers) feel that the law does not apply to them. It is also apparent that officers seem to 'get away with murder' or are charged with a lesser offence (rapist?) than a member of the public would recieve. (that's if they are charged at all!) So my question is, does the law apply equally to Police in the UK or are you all in some special catagory of immunity?

I was just wondering, as I've always thought about how I'd enjoy a career in the police (partly due to it being a job where you actually help people rather than where your sole purpose is to push up some company's annual profit), though always considered myself to be lacking the height and power need to succeed in one. I'm by no means overweight, unfit or flabby, though am only about 5'8 and three-quarters and weigh about 9/10 stone, so am by no means tall or physically capable either.
